I would like to say "your fired" to the whole lot. 16% approval rating. What a joke our lawmakers are!

Just one effect of a representative republic. Most of the time, these votes are made in such a way that they affect the next congress (take effect after the next election) so if we really don't like it we can vote out our representatives who voted for it. Pretty much never happens, though. People just keep re-electing the same people and expecting different results.

But they love to complain about it!

Because 'We The People' are seriously dumb a very great deal of the time. That's why we pick the brightest of ourselves, send them to Washington, and tell them to lead. Congressional salaries are low compared to what these people could get in private industry, and nobody gets rich. We've lost good people who couldn't afford to stay in office, and we're having a very tough time attracting the right people to the Federal judiciary, whose salary structure is even worse.

We don't do ourselves any favors by keeping government pay low. Think about it.

We do have a say. If you don't like it, you can vote against your incumbent senator in the next election.
