Cancer Fighting Foods/Spices
The National Cancer Institute estimates that roughly one-third of all cancer deaths may be diet related. What you eat can hurt you, but it can also help you. The use of drugs to reduce the risk of cancer in healthy people is called "chemoprevention". This is a fairly new and rapidly growing area of cancer research. Several clinical studies have shown that in women known to be at increased risk for breast cancer, the drugs tamoxifen and raloxifene may reduce this risk. Some other studies are looking at the effectiveness of newer drugs called aromatase inhibitors in this setting. Research on other possible chemopreventive medicines is also in progress.

All chemopreventive medicines have possible side effects, and they may not be right for all women who are at increased risk for breast cancer. If you are considering a chemopreventive medicine, you should have a clear understanding of your risk of developing breast cancer and be familiar with the potential benefits and side effects of chemopreventive medications. The following information is intended to help you understand what is known -- and what is not known -- about the ability of these drugs to reduce breast cancer risk, as well as their possible side effects. You and your doctor can use this information to help you decide whether or not one of them may be right for it.
