and compel employers to provide it, can it also compel everyone to get a high school diploma? Or a job? Or mandate that the parents of a child conceived out of wedlock get married?
But seriously, I have many questions on the various health care plans being discussed, and am still sorting through it all.
But my basic question is about the limits of the federal government's power to, say, require that everyone obtain health insurance. How does this compare with other actions the federal government requires us to take? Where is the constitutional authority? Again, the federal government already imposes many requirements on us, and I believe Mitt Romney instituted a similar state plan in Mass.
Finally, I included my examples about education, jobs and marriage, because studies show these factors contribute most to poverty.
What say you?

Exactly! No where in the Constitution is power granted to the Federal Gvmt to mandate the people buy insurance. I believe that this is different for the States.
What coverage would she demand us to buy? Mental health? Well Baby Care? I need neither, could I opt out? Somehow I doubt it.
And what if we didn't want to buy her plan? What if we worked hard and are able to afford to pay our own way, would she throw us in jail? Take away our income tax refunds?
Disgusting that people even can think that this is a good plan.

What does that tell you? What the politicians have neglected to say is that all Doctor Patient Privacy of medical records will be a thing of the past. Why would government want Your private medical records? Could that be Why it failed During the Clinton Administration?
HMO's are already distastful to Americans. You cannot choose your physician or hospital Nor can Your physcician and You decide which plan of action is Best for You. Government decides. If the woman in California that was left to die on the Hospital Emergency floor is an example of what they have in store, they can Keep it!

In general, federal mandates do not work well. The government exists to serve the people, not the other way around. The health care plan that Hillary Clinton has proposed does not mandate that anyone buy insurance, it is an attempt to make health care coverage affordable to all and to increase coverage that insurance companies are slowly taking away. Currently all U.S. taxpayeres are paying more and more for health care, whether they have coverage or not, and recieving less and less care.

Universal health care is one more step down an already dangerous road. Hillary wants us all to be dependent upon the government, and that's a bad place to be. As the authority of government increases, civil liberties decrease. We already see how the government is trying to destroy our civil liberties. The ban on trans fats is tantamount to saying the American people are too stupid to make their own intelligent food choices. Ditto that for smoking bans like they have in Ohio, where your home or your car is about the only place you can smoke legally. We need to see the health care debate for what it really is -- a smoke-screen put out by the liberals that they claim will make life better for all Americans but will in reality hurt the working class and take away our freedom of choice with health care.

I am wondering how they are going to pay for it.
With the restrictions on doctors..could there be a shortage? If the insurance companies are no longer needed...how many people will become unemployed?
What is the cut off ($)for free healthcare?
Will medical and medicare become a thing of the past or will it just be expanded?
What about state run health programs for children..will they exist or die off?
So many questions..no one has an answer.

If you have nothing, what are you going to pay the health insurance premiums with? Cut up newspapers. That is why people don't have health ins. to begin with. Rich people, like Clinton ought to live on the poor side for a while and see what it is really like.

i dont think the government should pay (maybe subsidize it some for lower income working people) for it but i think it should be madated for the same reason car insurance is mandated in many states, most people without health insurance that have serious illnesses end up getting their care paid for either by charity or they declare bankruptcy, either way it comes back and takes from society

It's psycho.
Heck man, she aint even president yet! Talking like this would get a lot of people in trouble. Once people get used to the idea, even the ones running against her, she'll win.:(
Save us all if she does....
Not trying to be extreme here, but you've looked at the facts, right?

What the government compels you to have, it forces you to pay for, dictates how it will be implemented, and it can deny you services for.
Just wait until they get this public healthcare fiasco rolled out and start denying smokers coverage.
