Power corrupts, and any incumbent is going to cut lose and abuse the system even worse, its human nature. Our entire economic, social and political system is ready for an overhaul. We have outlived our 200 year old principles long time ago. We should evolve to a new level of competence. New challenges, like overpopulation, environmental damages, cold wars with nukes, technologies bypassing our imagination and the total failure of today's politicians to find solutions.

You would have to make the lobbyist illegal first.

Otherwise they will be the only representation with a direct line to the congressmen. The people will be forgotten.

Not a whole lot different than it is now, but it would be worse when the lobbyist are the only ones who know how the system works.

So you want an ENTIRE Congress made up of Freshmen who don't really know or understand how the system works? Nothing would ever get done!

I think if your representatives are not representing you, you should find another candidate to vote for, but vote for the best person, not just against someone because they happen to be an incumbent.

I would absolutely be on board with this movement. In fact in '06 I did vote against every incumbent. It felt good. It didn't work, but I still felt comfortable with my vote.

I like the sentiment. But your solution implies that it is the politicians that are the problem.

They certainly aren't part of the solution. But I think that it's the people who put them in power that are the real culprits. So I completely agree with you. But I hope that we'll learn that we need to stop looking to politics to solve so many of problems. As long as we do, the system will continue to attract people who will profit on it.

No. I am quite happy with the representatives I have. Maybe if there is an R beside their names I might not be as happy with them right now but they are all D and have been doing at least an acceptable job since they were first voted in.

There should be term limits. Some of them have been there more years than our lifetimes. Politicians of both parties tend to work toward getting reelected and not for the benefit of the people who sent them to represent them. Kennedy, Lott, Byrd, etc need to retire.

Greetings. and how do you vote out the incumbents when they are the very people who count the secret ballot votes we cast? I would like to see the answer to that one. Magic?

Could you imagine having people there without an agenda other than one based on a persons ideals. WOW. People looking out for other people, and not who is lining their pockets. Wow. That is awesome, if people could buy into that. I would love that.
