Social pressure I guess. I'm 5.6" tall and my short stature had always been an impediment for achieving poise and self-confidence. It was about two years ago that I met my wife and we almost instantly made connection. She is about half an inch shorter than me but I would always feel a little insecure whenever she wore sandals. This would make her look much taller than myself. Not that anything wrong with that but society collectively feeds us with some stereotypes and a guy shorter than a woman would always raise eyebrows. My wife (who back then was my girlfriend) was conscious of myself being a little uneasy. She started coaching me on improving my dress coordination and also suggested that I should try wearing those walktall shoes. Doing a little research myself I gathered some info on stretching exercises. Although it’s true that exercises will not make you grow taller but it definitely helped me improve my posture. We certainly have more height hidden behind our slouched back and shabby dressing than we ever realize. There are some very basic stretching exercises and vertical fashion techniques that together can make a noticeable improvement in your height. And lastly it’s all a matter of perception. It all boils down to how we perceive ourselves. A better height can add to our confidence, but again, it’s our mind that perhaps makes us insecure. Some short dudes possess endless energy that makes their presence much taller than their height. You can follow the link below to get more info on posture exercises and some basic visual height enhancement techniques:

The question points up just how vain and superficial people are. How is physically 'looking up' to a woman's eyes in any way demeaning? In what way does being taller than your man make you uncomfortable or to feel not petite or feminine? These are merely physical characteristics where as you are talking about feelings. What happened to the idea that spiritual things, thoughts and feelings are superior to the physical? That all goes out the window rather quickly doesn't it? Vanity vanity all is vanity.

The question should be why don't SOME guys like their girlfriend to be taller than they?
I'm only 5'5" but, I'm not one of them. Being a bit shorter than average I have noticed, however, there seems to be just as many women who are reluctant to date shorter men. Too bad from them.

Some like taller, because of the long legs. Some don't because they think that the guy should be the dominant over the girl. It's tradition.

I don't think that's true for all guys. I see a lot of couples that are of different heights.
It seems foolish for a person to cheat himself/herself out of a possibly great relationship, because of something as trivial as height.

Just imagine when you are about to kiss her.. you have to tippy toe for her. It's just weird in my opinion. Most short guys just do not go for tall girls. Besides, you want common stuff between the girl and you and therefore most guys go for girls who are about the same or a bit shorter.

What a question!(i meant it in positive way)
Not all guys. To be particular my one and only boyfriend WAS a bit shorter than me- and i am way older than him. But i loved him because of his honesty, integrity, and self-respect and not to mention his intelligence. I think it's worth risking my self-esteem to know what went wrong between us.
Height and widths dont matter. It is what inside their hearts and their minds.

Well, the essence of masculinity is the projection of physical power, which is a bit harder to do if your girlfriend makes you look short.
Some guys can pull it off though.

No real man likes to look up to a woman, be it physical or otherwise. In spirit it's like dating mother. And many women don't like to look down to a man. It's just not a natural feeling for both.
