My wealth has increased during that time. However, the question we must answer (and that I see implied in your question) is what led to my increase in wealth? Three principle players have been active:

1. My own efforts. I educated myself during this period, obtained employment and worked hard.

2. The effort of other entrepreneurs. There is no discounting the great work done by others to provide products and services that improve my life.

3. Politics. Politicians love to take credit for anything good. Just how much good have they really done?

It is true that the United States has been a good place for businesses over most of the last twenty five years. Contracts are enforced. Property rights are generally respected. However, those facts only allow the first two above the freedom to generate wealth. I am of the opinion that to the extent that politicians attempt to manage and regulate the economy, they only drag it down.

Any economic growth (and it's fair to question the true extent of growth [1]) has been in spite of politics. Don't let the politicians take credit for the economy. We're not yet a centrally managed economy. If we were, we'd be as bad off as were the people under the Soviets.

No, not really. My buying power is not nearly what it was 25 years ago. I had planned on retiring early but because of economic issues I am going to delay retirement by 2 to 3 years and possibly more.

What economic expansion. The one in China or Europe? The USA is slowly and steady falling back world wide, thanks to Reaganomics (Borrow, borrow and then borrow some more)
