Invitations to fancy dress parties (or themed parties) - do they fill you with dread and you just grin and bear it - or are you innovative and happy to throw yourself into the spirit?

Costume parties thrill me b/c they are fun and games. Fancy dress bores me. I'm not into makeup, hair, heels, hose, jewelry, etc. It's not only the dress code that makes me itch; unless I know the hosts and other guests really well, I find the occasions to be pretentious and stifling. I'm not a party animal or anything; just pretty mellow in general with no patience for BS.

Depends on the occasion and how much preparation time I have. I'm at the point now where I generally begin preparing for the annual round of black-tie end-of-year holiday parties in February. I started shopping for my Halloween costume in July, and I'm pissed off that I still haven't found my Uhura dress. Dressing up is fun, but it's also work.

I like the idea of dressing up and usually think I will buy a new outfit and when the time comes I don't want to spend the money and then have to scramble around to find something old and out dated to wear. At least I am clean!

I wear suits and ties most days, so I am happy to wear that to parties. I go to the Opera in formal "white tie and tails" too. Parties I give are often "black tie" or "white tie". At least, men wear suits and ties. I have lived in several fancy neighborhoods across the USA, so people dress up most of the time around me.

Im happy to dress up in private ;) but I will not go to anything where I have to go out in public dressed up as I feel so silly...

Ive been on hen nights, as police women, or as cowgirls... I just think I look cheap and im really not one for wanting men paw all over me, but what can you say to a guy that grabs your butt, when you're dressed up in fishnets and mini skirts carrying little guns and handcuffs...its like im saying 'hey guys, im a ****!'

I have a mate that painted herself yellow and dressed up as marge simpson...legend...she very much gets into the spirit!!

I guess its just my nature that im a very shy girl that doesnt like attention..

It is fun to dress up a few times a year, I could see where it could get old if you were doing it a couple times a month or very often. The reason it is fun for me is because i don't do it often.

i love getting dressed up in a costume for Halloween, and I totally get into that. However, I don't like getting dressed up in fancy clothes because I am not comfortable like that!
