I have heard Henderson is nice as well as Summerlin, Anyone know how Southern Highland area is? I found a house there we really like... I am looking for a nice area to raise our boys with good schools. My husbands job is moving to N.Las vegas so, I don't want to move TOO far from his work.

We live in Henderson and travel to N Las Vegas daily. Traveling 95 versus 215 and 15 is the easiest commute. Once you hit 15 north from 95, the traffic isn't all that bad. There are good parts of Henderson and some not too good areas, but that is the same everywhere. If you know the zip code you are looking to move to for anywhere outside Henderson, try going to the Metro web site and look at the crime statistics for a certain area.
I have been here for 4 years from New England, will say there is some getting used to the heat, but the cold period is a short time.

I moved to Nevada from Michigan and currently live in North Las Vegas. If your husband works in NLV the drive is easiest from Summerlin because of the 215 highway. The 215 is less crowded than the 1-15 which is the road he'd need to take to get from Henderson. He'll have a shorter commute from Summerlin.
Further, Summerlin, though more expensive, is a nicer community with better city planning. It's cooler than the rest of the Las Vegas valley because it's at a higher elevation and it's a beautiful place to live because of its proximity to the mountains.
Also, because it is a more expensive place to live, there are more professionals who live there. I hear the schools are good (better than most in LV).
I'd choose Summerlin in a heartbeat. Even the gas stations look like mountain lodges!

If he will be working in N.LV I would look into Summerlin. A lot closer than Henderson and he won't have to fight the traffic everyday from Henderson. Summerlin is a newer community and has a lot of nice things. Henderson is more established and has everything imaginable. Still, I would choose Summerlin just for the traveling issue.
Here is something to remember. People here are not like people in Michigan. You probably won't know your neighbors. People here stick to themselves. They come home and go inside and stay. Las Vegans do not use their yards like back in Michigan. I moved here from Ohio and found that this is a lonely town to live in. Hardest thing to get use to next to driving here. Good luck.

I passed through and looked on my way from work, while riding in a tow truck. I had just wrecked my car, a guy stopped in front of me, no turn signal on a busy highway. 1998 Saturn - It got 38 MPG, I am REALLY REALLY pissed! $3.16 a gallon Gadsden Alabama
