If the engine cranks OK you just have a bad ground connection between the engine and the chassis.

Your battery needs charging or replacement if it's over 5 years old. Get a jump start to drive it to the auto store and have the battery and charging system checked for free. The cranking voltage must be over 9.5 volts DC to activate all your electronics, computer and fuel pump properly. Also remove and clean your battery cables at the battery posts.

most common problem i've seen causing strange gauge movements and such is bad alternator check charging system before you start looking for shorts and such start with the simple stuff first. I've seen every gauge in a car and the power windows rolling up and down by themselves all because the alternator wasn't putting out proper voltage.

Short!!! Make sure the battery cables have a good connection and all your ground wires that are connected to the frame and body are in good order. Its also probably could be your connections under the dash.

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.
