I'm going to have blood taken to confirm or deny pregnancy because I have been so sick today at 4:30. The phone nurse said that it could take a day or two before the results are in, unless they send me to the hospital to get a stat blood test. Why does it take so long?

They have to have it delivered to the lab, then delivered back to the clinic.

Because the blood sample has to go to the lab and be tested...it's not instant. A day or two is not a long time.

I don't know...My doctor does it right there in the office. The only thing they don't do is major blood work. I think more doctors need to update their capabilities.
Its SOOOOOO 1970's, to have to wait for lab results just to find out if you are PG.
