Should the next president have the military leadership of Eisenhower, the diplomatic ability of Ben Franklin, the fiscal management ability of Bill Clinton, the unifying ability of Ronald Reagan, the drive for social change of FDR?
What's you take on the next president. If you could take bits and pieces of past presidents or statesmen and roll them up into one person, what would that president be like?

A white male

A little comment on the first answer:
A white Male can be a very good pres. so could a white female, a black male or female. But if we always select a white male, we would not know about the others now?would we?
Now if we survive our current white male presidency. the next one got a hell of the load to handle. First he needs to fix our image around the world, currently we look as bad a monster.
So he needs to be a very good diplomat, negotiator and down to earth, no macho stuff or our S##T don't stink attitude.
He also needs to be a little technical and some good science background. He needs to be as cool as ice, like iceman, and not to react or deiced only based on what his advisers or his military guys are telling him. he also needs to have a big heart for people of the world.
my three choices are:

1- JFK
2- JFK
3- JFK

Best Regards

Excellence in all things, especially comprehensive views, and truthfulness, but this isn't going to happen.

This is my ignorant prediction: that Hilary Clinton and Obama as President, Vice president is the best America, on average, will accept right now. - Though I don't generally incline myself to think of them as excellent per se. I think Obama will be in office for 12 years between his vice presidency and presidency.

Maybe it'll be memorable if it proves true, but I hope I'm not that accurate and that something better will come along - there's always something/someone better.

God bless.

Honesty
Integrity
Conviction
Morals

Unfortunately I do not see these qualities in the the majority of candidates running and I have a strong fear that I will again be voting for the lesser of 2 evils. A process which I have been forced into too many times in recent years and one I despise greatly.

Someone wise, a polished speaker and politician, the willingness to appoint opposing party leaders to cabinet posts, patience in wielding military power, fiscally responsible, and opens a sense of excitement and possiblities to the nation.

The example you give is good.

In real life terms, I think Obama is closest to my thinking. Atleast from what has been made public about him.

But to your list, I would add Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Paine for the separation of religion and state affairs.
