Yes, definitely. I do think it is a shame when people pass on, and their stories are lost forever. I'm determined not to let this happen, so I started writing my stories down, about three years ago. I've done it in fits and starts, depending on how much free time I have, or how "inspired" I am. Hopefully It will be ready to print by the end of this year.
I'll make copies for my children, and insert some photographs of the events mentioned, to make it more interesting.
Most of us only ever know our parents from our own perspective, and this may be very wide of the mark. Their youthful experiences, and their explanations of decisions made and impressions gained, may be quite a revelation to their families.
I don't want my kids to think of me as just "their old lady", but as a fully rounded human being, having lived a life before they were born, and having had experiences that they never knew of.
I'll give it to them, to be read when they feel they want to get to know their old Mum a bit better. Some of it may surprise or even shock them, but that's OK. At least I'll be leaving behind a true history , rather than a few hazy memories.
Maybe one day, my grandchildren may dip into it, and say, "Wow ! Grandma had a cool life, and she used to be young once !" . Its a nice thought !

I have started some and then stopped several times. I did do a family history that was published in a county book. But I want to write the memories that have so generously been passed down to me. I hope someday to get this done.

I am ten years into the process of writing the story of my life. I don't seek fame or riches but I want to leave for my daughter and my grandchildren the account of a unique life that helped form who they have become. It has been a very rewarding project for me and I would highly recommend it for other seniors!

This same idea has inspired me for years. I have a book for each of my children that I have begun writing about their father, myself, their birth etc. I have taken places and put stories from my mother and grandmother and stories gleaned from doing geneology.

isn't it strange --- i had some friends come up from down south --- and they were so interested in my life / upbringing , etc that that was indeed their very suggestion .
i guess if you take things for granted ( and don't consider yourself -- vain ) you wouldn't dream of bothering ; with what you did in your life !
i might also add that i have a penfriend in america whom i dicuss plenty with
it has certainly given me a ' window ' of opportunity . thanks for your question . and good luck to you .
