Storm

An atmospheric disturbance involving perturbations of the prevailing pressure and wind fields, on scales ranging from tornadoes (1km across) to extratropical cyclones (2000-3000km across). It can also be a Wind with a speed between 48 and 55 knots.

Cyclone

An area of low pressure around which winds blow counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. Also the term used for a hurricane in the Indian Ocean and in the Western Pacific Ocean

Beaufort Scale

One of the first scales to estimate wind speeds and the effects was
created by Britain's Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort (1774-1857). He
developed the scale in 1805 to help sailors estimate the winds via
visual observations. The scale starts with 0 and goes to a force of 12.
The Beaufort scale is still used today to estimate wind strengths.

how can people be aware about these two?

People could listen to the weather forecasts...

As Defined by the National Weather Service (NWS)

Storm
Any disturbed state of the atmosphere, especially affecting the Earth's surface, and strongly implying destructive and otherwise unpleasant weather. Storms range in scale from tornadoes and thunderstorms through tropical cyclones to widespread extratropical cyclones.

Cyclone
An area of low atmospheric pressure that has a closed circulation. Cyclones (or more commonly called "low pressure areas") rotate counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. They usually bring about clouds and precipitation.

Beaufort Scale
Developed in 1805 by Sir Francis Beaufort of England
to discribe wind from 0 being Calm to 12 Hurricane

The term 'storm' is commonly used for any violent atmospheric phenomenon.such as a gale, thunderstorm, line-squall, rainstorm, duststorm and snowstorm. In synoptic Meteorology, the term is applied to an active centre of low pressure with strong winds and precipitation.
A cyclonic storm or a cyclone is an intense vortex or a whirl in the atmosphere with very strong winds circulating around it in an anti-clockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere and in clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere with a central low pressure area. These are called cyclonic storm or cyclones in Indian Ocean only.In other oceans they have different names such as hurricane, typhoon etc.
Beaufort scale is used to estimate the wind speed.Using the Beaufort scale, wind force were estimated on a numerical scale ranging from zero(calm) to 12(hurricane) first adopted by Admiral Beaufort. The velocity equivalents were originally based on the empirical relationship between estimated number and measured velocity, V=1.87√ B³, where V is in miles per hour and B is the corresponding Beaufort number.
The only way to know about the occurance of these two weather systems is to hear the warnings issued by the concerned authorities.
If you have internet connection and you have some basic knowledge about Meteorology, you can see latest radar pictures and satellite pictures and come to know about their formation and movement.
