Are guns good?

Guns are totally amoral, not only that but they also are not alive so they can not be "good" or "evil".

People can choose to use guns for good or evil.

We could eliminate guns and go back to chopping people up with swords....

Guns are great when used for good things. Shooting is fun. I shoot clay birds all of the time. Hunting (especially deer hunting) is absolutely necessary. Deer have no more big predators where I live and there are not many biig predator in most of the US. Somebody has to shoot the deer or they becom a big problem for traffic. The population will get out of control and can spread disease.

Guns are a social ill in whatever context you place them. Apologists for the pro gun lobby always come out with the old chestnut about guns not killing people...well its a lot more difficult to kill without them!

A civilised society gives up its right to be armed in favour of policing by consent. It is not a perfect arrangement by any means...but it is a whole lot better than the dregs of society running around with guns, and lets face it...only the dregs would want to.

I have several. They have never bothered me.

I have a chainsaw that concerns me quite a bit. I think chainsaws ARE bad. Did you see that movie about that crazy family in Texas?

Chainsaws should be outlawed.

I do agree that we shoud make it illegal to kill people. If killing was illegal, I think people wouldn't do it. Using a gun to kill, should DEFINITELY be illegal.

Oh, wait. Those two things already ARE illegal. Maybe we could make them TWICE as illegal.

Let's just go ahead and make them THREE times as illegal, and be done with it. That should make people think before committing a murder.

(why am I so sarcastic? Is it a genetic defect?)

Guns are neutral, neither bad nor good. It's the uses that are bad or good. You can use a gun for recreation like target shooting or hunting; you can use it for subsistence by hunting; you can use it for self defense and protection; or you can use it to harm others.

why do people have this thing with guns anyway the only people that have been shot with guns in this country are by Innocent by standers and kids .whats happened to being a man and fighting with your hands that's what we used to do in the old days

I don't care for the things as they are used and abused, but there has been many situations in my life where i wished i'd had one!!

guns are fine. its the people that use them and get them illegally that is the problem. therre should be more reforms on that note. I have a permit to carry a gun, and all i have to say is, legal in the hood and not afraid to use it.

if you possess a gun. then there is always la chance that you may be tempted to use it. unless you are a proffesional hunter
then i cannot see any reason to think that guns are anything other than bad. ask any victim of gun crime
