Having very sadly just had to deal with a situation that has gone very badly wrong involving a young persons mear addiction to internet porn - I am at a loss to understand where the pro-porn lobby are coming from.
Who are the winners?
It is not those that are used within the industry surely? I have not seen any porn stars on the Michael Parkinson show or with Oprah. I have yet to see a healthy, wealthy standard bearer of society wave the flag of recreational porn.
I do see the pimps with their gaudy baubles and I do see the the vacant eyed youths who view the female of the species like something hanging in a butchers window. I do see the young girls offering themselves to the alter of back-alley sex and abuse by every tom, bill (!) and harry.
Tell me - are you a proud porn viewer?

dbtz : I absolutely promise you that if I could, without breaking client confidentiality I would give you details so very very graphic that even a seasoned and verteran of the porn genre would - I sincerely hope - feel quite shocked.
I am neither a reclusive granny with ideas of porn that resonate from the 50's, 60's or 70's - and I would take bets that what I have seen and what you have seen differ only that the stuff that I have seen is HARD.
My question was borne out of a quiet desperation for the young and the vulnerable that are affected by this 'entertainment' - not the sophisticated intellectual that you would appear to see yourself as.
I wonder which one of us is more prone to drawing conclusions so very very far from the fact?
In my line of work I have the very sad pleasure of meeting lots of people like you who believe that recreational porn is rather like the odd beer or three. Easy to give up. I really really wish it was. I would love to be out of work.

I'm 29 yrs old and married with 3 kids and my 4th being due on April 15th. That said, my wife and I both are proud viewers of pornography, whether it be by the web or television. Neither of us are addicts when it comes to it and neither of us get jealous of the other watching it without the other. We, also, probably spend about $100 to $200 a year on various items relating to porn in one fashion or another. As a male, I don't view any of the performers as just pieces of meat. I follow what they do outside of the industry as well as inside it, same for my wife. Most do work for various charities from what I've encountered. Porn can be a healthy addition to a relationship if it's viewed under the right circumstances. True, there are people who ruin the "usage" with their addiction to it, but the same could be said for alcohol, too. If it's monitored correctly, whether it be by a spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, or just a friend in general, there is nothing wrong with it. I, personally, am a very proud viewer of the entire industry.

What is pornography has changed throughout the decades. In a way pornography has been accepted a little bit more and more. The only time I see pornography hurting someone is during a relationship. Pornography is also based on your own moral guidelines what you want to see or act on.

Yes, both my wife and I enjoy watching porn together on occasion.
I hate to say it but seeing people on a talk show is not my definition of a "positive thing". However, there are several well know porn stars that you have seen on normal movies and shows.
I remember being a "vacant eyed youth" (without porn) "lusting after female flesh" -- it had nothing to do with lack of respect or thinking that they were sex objects. It DID have everything to do with surges of hormones and frequent build ups of sperm. I also remember the massive amounts of guilt that I suffered from "Christian Morals".
I would continue, but as you have made a number of colorful assertions without backing them up with facts, statistics or well reasoned argument, it would be rather pointless. Just consider, sexual repression does not promote a healthy attitude to sex.

I do agree with the guy about adding something to your sex life and lots of men use it when they are single to get over the hump (so to speak). I can't see myself ever going into that line of work and then seeing myself as respectable, but there are plenty of jobs where you "whore" yourself out without actually dropping your pants. If you feel safe and are making money, then it's your business. It is also the job of the parents to let their sons know that women are equals and that sex is a consensual thing.

The winners are the porn producers.
I wonder if most women in porn were in some way abused as girls.
Yes, I watch porn regularly, from the video store, but if SHE finds out, i get in trouble.

yes. although when you ask "who are the winners?" i'm not sure exactly WHAT you're asking. i'm sorry to hear that you've had to deal with a bad situation because of internet porn.
that said, porn can be a very safe alternative to actually going out and being sexually active. it can spice up your sex life.

It' harmless good fun for those that may never see a beautiful women's or men's body in real life due to their unattractiveness. Just like prostitution, pornography offers an alternative for the disfigured, disabled, mentally diminished members of society. I view this as a necessary service that needs to have the negative stigma associated with it removed.
