No, in the transformation of conception to reality.
To be able to conceive brilliant things is one with a good imagination.

Hi Third P,
An artist forms the image and transforms these into something tangible through art, music, poetry or writing. The image does not make the artist as we all have imagination and creativity to some degree. Not all of us can utilise this in a practical/creative way. The essence of art lies in the creative process deep within the subconscious, the work in process determines the artist’s eventual product. But is the artist a helpless instrument of his creativity being swept along by a wave of need to create and invent? Or does the essence of art come about purely through the artist’s control of his inner resources?

I believe conceptualization by an artistic mind creates the basis for an artistic work.... it is in the practical output that the art really manifests... a good artist can always use some other person's concept and deliver a beautiful work of art. Art is the practical delivery of an artistic concept, just as technology is the practical delivery of a scientific concept.

Years ago when i was a univ. student, the same question intrigued my mind for a while. At last i came to this conclusion that many people are artists even though they never creat a piece of actual art work. The way they live or do their job or interact is art because they arrange some elements in a way that affects our sense of beauty. And this is the definition of art.
A recent example is you. I don't tell this to flatter you or gain a best answer. No this is my sincere feeling. i didn't liked most of the questions in this section. They mostly belonged to other sections like polls and surveys. But when i found you my attitude changed . The way your questions freshen my mind is art. When i read them , think about them or answer them i experience exactly the same feeling when i appreciate a good piece of art.
Thank you dear artist-philosopher.

We are all artists, with unique talents. It may involve an image, it may not.
A person who warmly smiles at another and brightens their day, has performed art - in that they have emotionally moved and effected the individual.
Images are just one facet of art.
The voluntary and involuntary conceptions are both the essences of art.

everyone in a sense is an artist. i do not consider myself an artist. tho i draw often. i have pictures in my mind, and gorgeous portraits i need to get on paper. sadly, i am limited in my talents, and can not draw all that my mind portrays.
people are considered great artists when their work can be admired, looked at, and sold. everyone is an artist because everyone has a unique conception. sadly, unless you put into a materialistic form, no one else can see it. no one else can look and say that it is good or bad. agree or disagree.
if that were possible, if we could all see each others conceptions. then people would realize the truth in saying that everyone is an artist. if someone is not talented in areas of the arts, they can not be artists. but i beg to differ.
i have never taken an art class, and in some ways i never want to. my talents and my ideas come from me. i do not want someone to teach me, or to critique or change what i enjoy.
art comes from your heart...your soul. no one should change what you have, and you shouldnt feel you have to measure up to someone elses standards. an artist can form images, and in a way yes it makes him an artist.
other people may not see it as art, because they may have different different views that yours. they may not see it as art, tho you do. maybe it didnt come out the same way you saw it in your head, and that could make a great difference as well.
but yes, everyone is an artist, whether or not they are able to get those images and conceptions out of their minds eye. we all have the ability to be artists, we all just need to find the way to get those pictures out of our minds. find that one route to putting those conceptions onto paper, or into sculpture or photos or anything really. find that way, and you will be the artist you never saw before.
hope it helps,
chelsea

The essence of art is communication. Thus, the concept must be conveyed in a meaningful way for art to come into existence.

A person is an artist when they provide another with a different view or thought. Art is something that needs to be appreciated and understood by more than one person to be validated. Even if you were to create something you thought was artistic, if nobody responds in kind, the concept is lost to all but you, like the tree in the forest thing.

When I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the piece that affected me the most was a painting by Rembrandt. I can't remember the name of it, but it was small portrait of a man, maybe about the size of a piece of paper. And it was behind a protective sheet of plastic that caught too much glare of the lights. But there was something about it, especially the eyes, that made me feel like I was connecting to a real person by looking at it. It was amazing. For music, I'd go with Leonard Cohen. For writing, Philip K. Dick. For trolling, that would be Jack or Capt. Art Griego. You asked what "captures the essence of you beliefs" but I'm going to read that as "speaks to your soul". My beliefs aren't particularly strong or well defined; if anything they focus most on treating other people with kindness, and that works best when we can see them for who they really are, and find something in them that reminds me of who I am, and that we are both just people trying to make our way in this crazy world.

The essence of art does lie in the thought of the artist and can be expressed in movement, in sound, in sense and in construction that is shared or demonstrated.

Art is human essence materialized in his forming something, nothing more complicated than that until specifics and questions of intent and function and the success or failure for it. Does or is concept only grounded in language, no, it is likewise grounded in his sense for actuality for the thing, his minds subject the known thing, his mind the ground for it.
