The heart desires, the mind acquires.
Beauty is the fire of the heart.
Truth the fire of the mind.
If I could have but one, it would be beauty, because desire is the essence of life.
But this would be a bitter choice, because reason is the gift of our kind.
To lose the beauty of truth, is to become less than human.

My first impulse is to choose truth, but this question can be taken in a lot of different ways. If I can have only one and not the other, I could only choose beauty. What a complete hell it would be to always have only truth and never have any beauty! I don't think there is a person alive that could bear that for long.
I would also like to say, in response to some the other respondents:---Truth is NOT beauty. Truth is totally objective; beauty is totally subjective. I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I love the truth and I totally agree that there is great beauty in the pure essence of truth. I therefore also agree that truth and beauty are inseparable, and the truth is there are many things, physical and metaphysical, that I find very beautiful. So, only under the constraints of Third P's highly hypothetical question would I choose beauty (or maybe now and then as an occasional indulgence[like a recreational drug])---Also, opinion is not truth, and the failure to grasp this concept is the cause of much ugliness.

Being Truthful, is a thing of great Beauty. Wise cracks, from a Mirror in Life, who has seen all that you saw in the Movie theater, being projected into a string of events without meaning such as a Life in the Big Ocean of Sprites.
Once you can accept the Truth in these words, you can choose a Path in the Mirror.
Hello Sprite!!!!!! Countdown to Ignite and become Spark.....
I chose beauty when I was young and Vietnam still held the Press Arena Hostage pouring into our TV-sets..Rerun Umpteen and I, I Sprite Ignite ..... And away a Depression flies out of a Window. Thus Creating a Space, for Sparks (Sprites with a Charm being Light in the Dark) where before there was None.
I thank my Spark, that made me a Star in my Fathers eyes within a year ... It was all I needed, to go on outside the Camera´s eye of then.....
Underground
always misrepresented by others, much gossiped about, and when that did not help spreading rumor of my untimely demise giving way to a desperation in my circle of people. The people who came as refugees, and people I used to be a spokeswoman for.begging money for Nicaragua or Africa for instance, while Mia Farrow does it now for Women and Children huddling on the Desert Floor without so much as a drink of clean water. I thank my Mask of Beauty which came from being True. A Truth Sayer is all that I am

Hi Third P.
I will choose both beauty and truth, thank you very much.
I believe that God created everything, and He sure created some beautiful sunsets, awesome thunderstorms with beautiful lightning, etc. He made the colors of all the flowers which are absolutely beautiful. I could go on forever about all the beauty He created.
Then He taught us about truth. We didn't listen; so He sent His son, who had to straighten us out.
Jesus taught us about truth. The most important truth was that we would be forgiven our sins because He was going to die on the cross in our place.
There is no greater truth than that, in my opinion.
Peace.

For about twenty years, my main "handle" or e-name online is Truthist. I am a living Truth specialist and an ambassador of, and in and with, Truth.
There are three supreme spiritul values than humans can best grasp now. Truth, beauty and goodness. In a sense, they may be perceived as the three planes in an upper corner of your room where this corner volume is love.
When Jesus Christ was asked, "What is truth?" He answered not. If Jesus were to have been asked, "Who is Truth?" He would have immediately replied. I AM
Truth is a Person in the highest sense of the word. He the Spirit of All Truth: GOD. GOD IS TRUTH.
"God is love; but love is not God" (given by epochal revelation)
also, God is beauty; but beauty is not God. ( I also agree)
How about this, "God is Truth; and Truth is God"
True or false ? Have you perused John 16:7-16 and John chapter 17, especially the last 1/3 there ? Blaise Pascal was granted a Vision of God when he comprehended that. Many others also have.
In Truth, we Truth-seekers-finders are each iving Truths in infinite Truth. And that is very beautiful and very good.
Peace and progress,
Brother Dave, a Jesusonian Christian Truthist

Truth, even if it can be so cruel but a philosopher work with his mind a lot so he let beauty for the heart to decide.

Well, if beauty and truth are both objective features of the universe, then to have access to the ultimate truth (the way the universe actually is, as opposed to how we believe it is) is also to have access of the truth of objective beauty - and that would be of more value than any subjective actualized "beauty".

i would pick beauty. unlike most people, i'm contempt with my ignorance. some things, we are not meant to know. "can you handle the truth?" truth in comparison is MUCH more potent in terms of...life i guess. it's like stepping out of the eyes of man and entering the eyes of God. it's not something i think i (nor most, if not all) can handle.
beauty is something we can achieve on our own (from birth or from adjustment), thus it's a humble request in comparison to truth. it depends how one sees beauty. if i'm getting the beauty that other's see, than forget it. if it's the beauty that i see, than heck yes.
there are many beauties and no set of rules for something beautiful. so there is more flexibility when it comes to being beautiful. on the other hand there is only one truth. beauty only becomes a thing of vanity when you want it to. truth is truth. you can't pick and choose what truths you want revealed, and it can be DEVASTATING, watch oldboy for example.

Do we have a choice here? Nope! Coz beauty is truth; truth beauty. We have just a choice to go after it and seek it or be satisified with the superficial and fake beauty of some common-sensial facts.
Forgive me for coining words!
Have a nice day.

I will always take truth over beauty because to lie is ugly. to tell the truth no matter how it hurts, makes you a beautiful person and one that people can trust. No matter how beautiful a person is on the outside, if they are a liar, it makes them truly ugly.
