if you are talking about hand made paper the process is a little different. We made paper in a craft class I took recently and we used news print and stewed it in a water bath to break down the fibers then ground it in a blender and then put it into a tub of scented dye water with a bit of sizing added. I think I would have added liquid starch as well. We then used our deckle screens to lift out a coating of pulp thick enough that it would come off the screen in one piece after we blotted it free of as much moisture as we could manage using felting squares that did not stick to the wet pulp.. Each sheet was then lifted very gently off the screen and laid on a surface of padded cotton to dry which in the 9x11 size took about 48 to 72 hours. Before we began blotting we added any tiny herbal or flora embellishments to the wet pulp on the screens. I was not entirely pleased with the thickness of the pages I made but I think I could improve over time if I wanted to work with it.

White paper is pulp that has been bleached. The brown color is more natural.
