I have just read a tirade from a yahoo questioner, who I feel was acting 'demented', do we (at yahoo Q&As) cause this feeling - or are we an outlet for this obviously pent up anger?
Question was in News and Events.

depends sometimes in Q&A i am fine then i see some propaganda that for no other reason but reading it sends my blood boiling, and my last question was due to that, other times i see questions about the mcanns or a particular event or muslims which obviously comes from other places so it is both in a way. I'm not sure if i Interpreted the question right but that is what i think you mean

We're in the information age. Almost anybody can post worldwide. There have always been plenty of people with a lot of anger and not very much sense. I see them every day. You're just now more exposed.

Interesting question.. There's no doubt that this site attracts a lot of lunatics and trolls, I wonder what they were doing before the internet ? I think sites like this give them way too much attention, but then, while they're on here, they're not out walking the streets !

On reflection, I don't think we're either curing or causing.

I think we are doing a bit of both... have you ever felt in a really bad mood and then someone asks a truely silly question and you answer all sacastically? I think that when people are hiding behind their computer screens they are more likely to say something rude. But then again, all those McCann questions leave me reeling. So I guess whe're a bit of both.

There is certainly some frustration at the lack of recourse you have.. epecially if you feel insulted..

For example i think Mittens is thick as pig sh1t.

Now watch her boil!!

and guess what the W in Jimmy W stands for..

There are many people on YA who would never say those things to your face, but feel it's ok to say it here assuming that they are anonymous, i have had some right rude comments and wonder why they needed to be abusive.

In some cases Y!A is the sole cause of the anger... in others, Y!A wasn't the cause, but it gets the blame...

Some people like to hide behind the internet's anonymity to be anti-social. They seem to think it gives them licence to be a jackass in a way that in real life would earn them a fat lip.

I blame penis envy.

It's all swings and roundabouts so it's a bit of both.
