That's why I always have an air horn handy. You can't get arrested for battery by using an air horn.

ha ha this very thing happened to me about a year ago

a held the door right open for a lady coming through with a buggy with a baby in it

well firstly she gave me a look like i was a piece of dirt and then walked on into the shop without even saying a word let alone a word of thanks

i said to her sarcastically 'thank you'
and she just looked at me with that kind of what are you talking about expression

and i said 'i've just held the door open for you, you could have said thanks'

she said (she was an american so in an american accent) 'keep your hair on honey'

and i retorted 'in this (stressing the this) country we say thank you' and walked out!

so in response to your question i would have liked to have put my toe up her a**e

I agree with you - people should say thanks if you've held a door open for them.

I lived abroad for a while, I shan't say where for fear of reprisals from people living in the country in question!, but not once in 4 years did a native born person thank me for holding a door for them or ever hold a door for me. So, some people who don't thank you might just not be used to doing it.....it's still rude though!

Just lack of manners. That kick may be the wake up call.

"most of the times we expect in return that they will say "thank you" and most people really do this. But there are some who didn't or there's no any reaction and sometimes you want to kick 'em. If someone say thank you, of course you're welcome! and to those who didn't! never mind as long as I did my effort and helps people, its okay for me no need to expect in return. "God knows" Have a nice day.

i sure do, manners cost nothing. it also annoys me when a child is kind enough to hold a door open for someone and one adult after another just keeps walking through without a word of thanks and the poor kid doesnt know when to let go.

lack of manners is one of my pet hates.I reckon it starts from an early age, when my kids were small we insisted that please and thank you was said by them when they wanted something, i am amazed at some of their friend who dont seem to know the words. manners cost nothing. You keep on being nice it's their problem if they dont have basic manners.

Yes, I do. Same thing when you give someone a break when they're entering traffic and they don't give the thank you wave. Makes me want to ram their car.

Perhaps it's rude of me, but, sometimes I'll say "thank you" when I hold the door open for someone and they don't say anything.

i once held open a door for a rather masculine looking lady who simply muttered "nazi" at me!
to the best of my knowledge the nazis weren't particularly well known for good manners and unexpected small courtesies
