medgy, there's no right or wrong way, but there are some that are more likely to result in a completed novel.
Before you write, plan it out. Write a detailed synopsis, an outline, scenes on index cards, whatever works for you. Write a short bio for your characters, so they'll behave consistently.
One of the most common reasons people don't complete novels is they lose their way as they write. If you've already made yourself a good 'map,' that won't happen to you.
Next, just write. Start anywhere--beginning, end, middle, a scene that excites you, anywhere you want. Then write another scene, and another.
BTW, be aware that November is National Novel Writing Month--NaNoWriMo.com has tips.

Couldn't have said it better than Maryn. The most important thing is to get the ideas on paper. If you are unsure about the quality or writing style I suggest you become a member of writing.com. This is an online community where you can post your work and be critiqued by other writers and editors.
You also have a good chance of being 'discovered' if you post consistently and show talent. Good Luck

Simply start by writing all your ideas as you think of them. They don't have to be in order or even make sense. Just write what's in your mind. Then go back and re-read, make corrections, put it in order, fill in the gaps, et cetera. Ask other writers to critique your work. Take a creative writing class.
