Get a life. They are guilty of nothing more than a mistake that took the worst possible outcome. Neglect is the wrong word to be using .

I agree with you entirely, and it's illegal for a parent to leave a child alone as far as I know in ANY European country. What were they thinking, they should have either gone do dinner earlier or stayed in the apartment with the kids like everyone else does. Yes, it's easy to judge on hindsight but what were they thinking? They mention that they were not very far away, but what would have happened if there had been a medical problem? No one can imagine what they're going through, but at least she has admitted her mistake.

They were incredibly wrong and stupid.
I don't care if people want to dress it up as neglect or not thinking, simple case is you don't leave children that young by themselves. You can't leave children that young without a responsible adult, how many people actually think that it is right to leave small children by themselves? My guess is none. If they wanted to go out for a quiet meal together then they should not have taken the children with them on holiday, if you have children then you take responsibility to look after them, leaving them by themselves just so they can have a good time is a not looking after them, it's a disgrace.
They should be blamed, quite simply if they had not been so selfish and had actually considered their children then this would not have happened. They chose to leave the children, if they were all together then this would not have happened.

Yes it was wrong to leave 3 young kids on their own and that is a form of neglect. I would feel a bit more compassion for the McCanns if they actually admitted that

I've said from day one they were neglectful.I've seen from 1st hand experience the harm that can happen to children (or in this case babies) left on their own.I even saved an 18 month old baby's life when I found him wandering on a busy main road in just a nappy.I took him home whilst pushing my own baby in his buggy. The mother just shrugged her shoulders and said he was naughty, he'd followed his older siblings out of an unlocked door as they made their way to school. All the kids have since been taken into care as so many locals have reported their neglect. You need eyes up your butt when you have small kids.Even when there was a shop next door to me, I used to drag the kids in with me.If I went to the bathroom I'd have to leave the door open and shout to them now and then to make sure they were okay.I'd shower before my husband went to work, and when he came home so the kids wouldn't be left unattended.I guess I'm the complete opposite of the McCanns.

My thoughts exactly...
It is due to their neglect that this child has 'disappeared'.
How anyone can say the McCanns didn't neglect their children is beyond me. They had sight of the front door (so they say), yet the patio doors on the other side of the building (way out of view from the Tapas Bar), was left unlocked.....
Neglect and who knows what else......they should live in shame for the rest of their lives....

Yes they were wrong.
Yes they were neglectful.
I agree - it wouldn't have happened.
It beggars belief that people so educated as them can
be so naive to think it is safe to leave children in an
apartment, alone with doors unlocked and think that
they are going to be 100% safe from danger.
The poor mite could have wandered out and fell down a drain. We will never know. And her parents have to live
with it for the rest of their lives. Minxy.

Cant be anti or pro.
Only speaking for myself.
Of course they were wrong and I would be hard pushed to find anyone who would support them in that decision.
Thing is my scummy neighbour regularly leaves her small children, I reported her to Social Services twice, contacted the kids school, NSPCC, Barnados.
I was told by SOCIAL services that everything seemed fine on their visit, if she left them again, I was to call the police. This I have done so twice. They just tell her off. I m at my wits end listening to them crying when shes out. Why do you reckon nothing is being done??
Its lucky we are all good parents on here, what im saying is some people find NOTHING WRONG in leaving theirs, be it the Mc Canns or the scummy slag who lives opposite me.

Yes 100%; it was totally irresponsible and neglectful. It truly amazes me that doctors would do this; however I do not think that everyone on their back is helping. They have made a terrible, terrible mistake and have been punished in the worst way possible.

It's always easy to say "after the fact" that you wouldn't do something but you have to consider that this hotel was known for family activities, and everyone had children there...and they were going every half hour to check on them....the room was locked, etc....Why would you expect them to be in danger in those circumstances?
You might not do the same, but I don't think you can blame them when they felt it was very safe. They obviously were wrong.
