ok i realized that alot of u are saying that there isnt alot of soul or talent in the music
but soul part i cant answer that my musical taste us usually upbeat

but Kruger i never said i liked it, i actually dont because my liking isnt played on the radio (well at least american radio)

but the thing is mainstream in the 60's, 50's time span were the same as now
repetitive
yet so many ppl say that was the golden era of music
also for some of u who have said something along the lines of no talent

u need talent to get recognized by a lable
if no talent was the issue then alot of pretty bands (as in bands with good looking ppl) would all have a record label

i dont neccisarily dis mainstereme music, but as a general rule, its crap. this is because it all lacks musical tallent and is increadibly boring and repetative(especially the drum beats) and slow. it is purely disigned to exploit people by taking their money with out every really getting a serious messege across. alot of rap music promotes violence. did i mension its boring and repetative? pretty much all songs are about love, can no-one think of something origional or something that sounds slightly different

why exactly do you like it, name me some up point and i will consider them, and probably reply with another argument if i think they are worth arguing over

Well, I dislike mainstream music, because It has no soul. Yes, some might think it does, judging by the way they cry in their music videos, but all that can be manufactured. every band sounds the same, just with a different gimmick. record executives just want their quick little hit and then they don't give a crap about the band. also, mainstream music doesn't stand for anything. there's no real message and no morals. the bands are just business people. and we wonder why we have so many delinquent kids! ******* punk rock has 10 times the morals of mainstream music! not to mention that the lyrics sound like they were written by a five year old.

I don't bash modern music in particular it's just that it doesn't meet my liking as a songwriter.

Because I'm a songwriter my expectations for both songwriting and musical composition are high; fail to deliver on either and I won't like the music. I like well-rounded musicians and unfortunately I don't find many of them in modern rock.

Another thing I don't like about modern rock is that the mainstream stuff focuses too much on major scales while the underground stuff focuses too much on minor scales. Again, diversification is the key, you can't overdo it on either.

((update)): It's more like you only need to get the money into the record labels these days to get the money (in response to "u need talent to get recognized by a lable"). Look at a lot of mainstream American artists and think about it. All they really have are looks and appeal like Milli Vanilli where they're like the billboard for the actual product. The executives just sign away the deals and they kick back and relax in their 1,000 square metre yacht.

I guess I don't mind mainstream music some of the time, it's just that it's generated to appeal to the masses. It doesn't always allow an artist to use their full range of writing, playing, or singing talent. It tends to be about what's marketable, not necessarily what the artist needs or wants to express. It's canned.

I like many types of music and try to respect everyones opinion on it. Some people just have a hard time saying ''I do not care for it'' instead of ''it sucks''. I am probably one of the people who enjoy older music better than what's popular today but I'm not gonna tell someone they have bad taste or their choices or crap. I always say , it's your ears and you can decide what to put in them.

I dis on mainstream music because I know looking back through the years It's just another trend. so I went off on my own ventures to find better music. To tell you the truth I'd be out there listening to Indie music If it was on Lime wire. Honestly, Mainstream music is boring. The only reason I don't listen to nickleback is because their boring. I find my excitement in Pre-93' bands like----Pantera, Early Nirvana, The Melvins, Ozzy Osbourne, judas Priest, Megadeth, Their exciting to listen to not yelping about cutting their wrists.
