Kella G gave you the correct link.

North Qld - Townsville upwards to Cairns is many years waiting. 100's of people applied for housing commission after last years cyclone 'larry'. Houses are still getting rebuilt especially around Innisfail.

Also depends on your circumstances, are you disabled, single parent etc.... First step is to fill out the forms and make an appointment with them for a chat.

Firstly do you meet the requirements i.e. residency in qld., be an australian citizen, etc; then you must not own property, then you must satisfy income requirements, then you must apply and be interviewed in person at the Dept. of Housing offices.
Then you are put on a waiting list - which can take years esp in a city such as Brisbane.

the further out west you go the least time you wait but average wait now is about 6-12 yrs on gold coast,we have friends waiting for gold coast 7 yrs and still waiting. all you can do is fill out the forms and cross your fingers its not going to end up 15 yrs.

just go to 1 of the QHC offices & inquire
if you say anyplace at all it is faster but expect to wait for years if you want a special area that you like & is a good neighbourhood
