Hey i am a 16 year old aussie girl and I have to play a 18 yr old american girl in a film. what sorts of things do i need to do to perfect teh accent. i think i'm trying to achieve a 'mean girls' style accent but any tips or u-tube vids that would help would be great. :)

There are dialect tapes which are great for accent removal or for leaning a new one. A "neutral" American accent would be located as "midwestern" though they have their own little flaws in pronounciation. "Mean girls" could be "Val-speak" as in the movie Heathers, or it could be a kind of Brooklyn patois.

I don't have the specifics of what a 'mean girls' dialect would be. But if your film is worth your effort, they should have a dialect coach on the staff. If it is a small film, I suggest you watch movies with characters like your in them and imitate the dialects.
