I do believe Abe would have had to amend his statement had he seen Ali fight....laughing. Ali was...and continues to be in each and every way..."The Greatest". No question about it. Even Abe could not deny him that....Ali totally ruled...and in many ways is still the standard by which many fighters are judged.

ali was the greatest...until he lost his title

as where honest abe is still considered the greatest by many...and even as president was renouned for his humble presence and gentle social naunce...he never claimed he was anything more than a simple man who worked and lived off the land educated himself beyond a simple understanding of his own world all the way up through extended education and college...

all ali did was show off and knock dudes out...so if your comparing the two lincoln owns..despite time travelling to the thrilla in manila.

also..if abe hadnt been so agressive in the civil war...ali may not heave ever had the chance to box...let alone the thrilla in manila...so abe takes the cake

Whether Honest Abe would have retracted his statement or not seems a moot point when one compares the accomplishments of the two. While most politicians are not champion boxing material, most boxers do not have the ability to run an army - let alone a nation - during a civil war.

NO. A person who beats up on another for any reason, in Ali's case for money, would not cause Lincoln to change his statement. I'm sure Lincoln saw fighting bouts in some of the rural areas he lived in He probably also saw "bear wrestling" and "injun fighting" and there were 'Great" fighters then also..

I wasn't just the boxing that made Ali great it was sticking by his principles, going to jail for them and losing his World title because of them.
So I think Abe would have called him great because he also stuck by his principles even though many didn't agree with him.
