If they were a couple living on a council estate and she was a cleaner and he was a builder, for example, and Maddy went missing, do you think Richard Branson would have still dished out the money to help them with the fees? Or is it a case of upper class people sticking together? We have had a discussion about this at work and I just wondered what people's opinions were.

I think that if the McGanns were say a buider & a cleaner:

1) they would have been arrested for child neglect by now
2) they wouldn't have had the audacity to take money off people and go on a tour around Europe
3) they wouldn't have had a meeting with the pope
4) there wouldn't be half as much attention in the media
5) they wouldn't even have met Richard Branson- let alone be enagged in some ridiculous publicity affair with him!

It sucks

Why don't people realise - ITS ABOUT PUBLICITY!

Branson has pledged £100,000 which is about the same as half a dozen TV ads and he is getting so much press and publicity for it.

He is taking a gamble on it, and he believes that they are innocent so he will be seen as the good guy and do very well out of it.

If the tide suddenly takes a turn, he will just distance himself from it.

He is a master of publicity and this is no different.

I think Richard Branson would of helped them regardless of what walk of life they were from. Also think about it, Richard Branson is a father all you have to so is think about how you would feel in their situation, and just from that small thought it makes you feel terrible, so that is probably what made him give them money to help. If I had his sort of money, I certainly would help all the people I could, but since I don't I have to help people in other ways instead.

Yes, I think it was rather a misguided gesture, since it will sway any jury should further evidence come to light. Having said that, it is up to Sir Richard how he spends his money and he must feel very strongly about their innocence
I still think their behaviour in leaving the children alone was quite irresponsible, or was there a reason for this??
Yes. I think it is a class issue, and you are correct in what you say.

I think it is wrong that this couple is getting so much publicity when there is far more pressing issues going on around the world.

If that was a council estate couple or a couple of ethnic origin, i don't think they would get so much press time and support as these two who probably did kill there children.

I think its man who has children himself wanting to help someone else because he's lucky enough to be able to, class doesnt come into it,i havent got much but would help if in same position...regardless of where or how they lived.. its a days interest to him and if it helps to find 'maddie' and support her parents then all credit to him... too many people are quick to judge a thoughtful action! ( not you I realize this is open for discussion)lets hope for her safe return!!!

Your right, Just because they are G.P's , doesn't make them better , I never judge a book by it's cover, because you never know what they are like at home.

I think he would still have paid it out. It's getting his name in the media that matters to him!
