What Mike Vick did not only broke state and federal laws but also resulted in the murder of dozens of dogs. He deserved not only jail time but also any sentence the NFL could have handed down.
While I find what the Patriots did despicable, they did not actually break any actual local or state laws, just the rules of their sport. And truth be told, the NFL doesn't have any real hard set rules about what they did. The NFL rulebook states that no cameras are allowed on the field by either team during game time, but that rule was made mostly so that the NFL had exclusive rights to the footage and didn't cover what would happen if someone used one for the sake of stealing plays, so the NFL was really only allowed to hand down the fines and take away the draft picks, which was the sentence that they handed down.
What Vick did was not only illegal but inhumane, what the Patriots did was just unsportsman-like.

Yes, I definitely think that the Pats got off easy. Blatant and flagrant cheating should be dealt with the harshest possible sentence. Roger Goodell says the investigation is not over and he can add to the punishment if more evidence comes in. I think Belichick should be suspended during the entire investigation, and if more evidence of cheating comes in, he should be banned from football. Instead, he is found guilty of cheating, slapped with a fine, and allowed to continue with business as usual. This obviously has been going on for a long time. Once a cheater, always a cheater. Goodell should show the fans that cheating will not be tolerated. Period.
This is not a matter of being a Pats fan or a Pats hater. It's a matter of ethics.

One of the pre-game shows this week had a segment called Grumpy Old Coaches, with three well established coaches debating what Belichick did. When asked if they had ever used similar tactics to gain information on the other team, they all admitted they had. One said he used to have someone gather the garbage from the opposing locker rooms so that they could find game plans etc that had been discarded. NE's penalty is strong enough to stop any team from using these tactics. Belichick is the last kid with his hand in the cookie jar, and mom has said "no more", but there are a lot more fingerprints on the jar if we really want to look closer.
As for Vick there are a couple of factors which weigh heavily against him. First, it was a criminal act which will land him some jail time. Second, Vick has outraged animal rights groups. Animal rights groups who will target the NFL consumer if it is perceived that the NFL has failed to recognize the seriousness of the offense.

Vick deserves everything he is getting right now! It is discusting and offensive that people would actual condone and defend his behavior. What the Pats did was very catty and low, but was NOT a felony, and did not involve the murder of dozens of animals. Vick deserves every bit of punishment he gets...and honestly his fine he will receive for his charges will be less than Coach Billy's. Granted he gets to spend some time in jail being Bubba's new TIGHT END!

Yall are saying what the Pats did was poor sportsmanship? Ofcourse it is, but saying their cheaters fits there actions much better. Poor sportsmanship is not shaking your opponents hands after loosing, or disrupting the game with outside antics. Recording signals is just as survier as STERIOD USE, and the crime should fit the bill. Vick's issues were all outside of football.

I think the Pats got off easy - thanks to the cozy relationship their owner has with Roger.
But Vick committed a felony crime. He will get what he deserves - I hope.

Vick was not 'affiliated' - he was the ringleader of a criminal organization like John Gotti! If he was Italian, he would be doing a life term right now! Do you actually think that committing REAL crimes is less than sports? What the hell is wrong with you!!!!

Man people just arent gonna let the whole vick/dogfighting thing go are they? If you ask me, a DUI is worse than a million charges of dogfighting for the simple fact that a DUI can lead to people being killed, not dogs, and yet how do sports powers that be treat it? "Hey lets slap him on the wrist and rest him for a couple of games, so he can get away with it again!!! The nerve of some people!!!
