to gather so much money in the first place. One woman, who had £750,000 in Northern Rock said she was considering stuffing it under the mattress. Bloody idiots, massive queues are still outside the building society even after the British government have stated on TV that 100% of their money is being insured by the chancellor, what fools they are.
What is your opinion?

Another man had a million pounds in Northern Rock and he went in the bank with his wife and demanded every penny IN CASH !!! despite the fact the maximum cash withdrawal is £500. He was so aggressive that the police had to be called.

I agree. Most of the people were withdrawing relatively small amounts, even though these funds are guaranteed within existing deposit rules. They also lost money as they withdrew money without giving the 30 or 70 day notice, which on £30,000 is not pin money.
Sadly such scenes of mindless sheep mentality could have meant a collapse in the banking sector and will lead to many Northern Rock staff facing redundancy.

There were no queues in Newcastle this morning. If everyone else follows suit there will be no problem.
I can understand the anxiety of people who have all their money with the Northern rock. My in laws who are in their seventies are very worried, but they are trusting the building society and Government. (They live just north of Newcastle). Unfortunately they have suffered because it has been difficult for them to withdraw their weekly budget (they get their pensions paid directly into the Northern Rock).

It is laughable isn't it!
That woman going on about stuffing it under her mattress - how idiotic! Imagine if you were a burglar in the area all you would have to do is follow her home and VOILLA your 3/4 of a million up!
It is mass hysteria - nothing the Brits like more is there?

Well it might be time for them to report you for libel on your questions like you suggested for the anti-McCann crowd. Turnabout is fairplay, eh?
I think how people arrived at their current bank statements isn't really our business. And if they have that much money they aren't idiots, maybe they were saying that for dramatic licence.

No queue outside my local branch.
I think the couple you refer to above were demanding access to their online account (through the NR Intranet) rather than demanding cash.

It's likely they'll be advised to take a banker's draft so they can go to another bank, and only they will be able to deposit it. Or use a bank transfer.
