bill clinton did much to heal the rift between america and the old countries of central europe (did you know that there is a tribute window to him at the reduta club in the middle of prague?), introduced an economic reform policy which had americans working together for the common good for the first time in a generation, and showed a universal religious and ethnic tolerance in every aspect of his presidency.

he even offered the american people a chance to grow up when he refused to allow the starr commission to derail his political office into a series of national enquirer scandals.

but the american people were not ready for it.

Actually I have several answers. George Washington; Abraham Lincoln; Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt; Harry Truman; Lyndon Johnson; Jimmy Carter; Bill Clinton. Washington set the frame work for the presidency. Lincoln held the country together and ended slavery. Theodore Roosevelt because of his Trust Busting and the Panama Canal. Franklin Roosevelt for his leadership In WWII. Harry Truman because he had a tough act to follow and had the courage to end WWII. Lyndon Johnson because he pushed the Civil Rights Act through Congress. Jimmy Carter because he brought an honesty to the presidency and Bill Clinton because he put the US on a sound financial footing.

This is a hard one to answer. All the presidents have had their good points and their bad. From the first George (Washington) to the current George (W. Bush) and all the others in between.

They all did something to merit having their name going into the history books, things beyond just being elected or replacing a murdered/disgraced president.

And even though some have left in disgrace you cannot take away that their administration had some influence in American history.

By far Ronald Reagan! He took a suck bag economy he inherited from Jimmy Carter and turned it around. He defeated communism, built up the military, decreased poverty and lowered unemployment. The middle class grew. The country prospered until we got bill. Not to mention ended the Cold War without a shot being fired

I would give my vote Gen.George Washington
He was the 1st President (A lot of pressure)
He helped make it possible, to break free
from English Rule & become United States
If not for him, there would be no U.S.A. or
other Presidents to consider, who was best.

I believe that it is impossible to pick just one because the times and tasks were so different.

Washington and his actions created the tradition that is he Presidency.

Jefferson gave us the philosophy that is the nation.

Lincoln held the thing together through it's toughest and bloodiest challenge.

Truman took decisive action to end the the nastiest war of all time.

Reagan conquered the USSR without a shot.

It is hard to pick from such a great and diverse lineup.
