I hate the Yankees because their organization artificially inflates the value of middle of the road players and by default raise salaries across the MLB by setting these precedents. I cant totally blame them though. They do have the most money to spend, which is great. I'm happy that they are a successful business, but at the same time, they're equally as bad for baseball because of how they tip the scales when compared to a small market team.
Whenever a big name comes up in the free agent market, who is the first name to be brought up with them? The Yankees.
They cycle through big names so quickly and leave a hefty price tag once they are done. For example, is Bobby Abreu really a $15mil a year player? Is Mike Mussina [at 9-10] worth 11 a year? I wont even start with Giambi. Would Boston have paid 50mil, just to talk to Daisuke if the Yankees werent on the other line making counter offers?
Like I said, thats good for them that they have all that money, but it throws the rest of the MLB pay scale out of whack every time a big name hits the free agent market.

It's funny how everyone thinks the Yankees buy all their players. The reality is that they have among the MOST homegrown talent. It has been proven that small market owners have the ability to keep their homegrown players and they choose not to in order to make more of a profit. The only thing the Yankees do is make the committment to win. The teams everyone should be pissed at is the small market teams that make no effort to improve. I don't want to hear that its not fair or it's not possible to compete with the Yankees. The Marlins, Diamondbacks, Angels(with a small payroll) have all won WS titles. The Twins were in the mix EVERY year until this year, Oakland competes yearly and any team in the national league is a small market with the exception of the Cubs and Mets and until recently they weren't competing. So don't blame the teams that do spend, blame teams that don't spend and try to pocket the money.

I hate the Yankees because they are the Evil Empire of Baseball. They have the most money and can buy any player that they want. Steinbrener is such a spoiled man.

I don't like them, but I hardly hate anyone.
The reason I don't like them, is because their fans brag and rub it in and have no sportsmanship, and they have the money to buy talent other teams don't have the money for so it's hardly a level playing field, so they have an advantage. Most Yankees fans just ignore that and refuse to except it, because they want to act like they are winning on their, own but they aren't and haven't done that in a long long time. They also act like they are entitled to be in the playoffs like all of baseball revolves around them being in the playoffs. The other issue is that ESPN is in Connecticut really short ways away from New York, Fox Sports is in New York so they get all the coverage, which also leads to more revenue for their team. The Mets fans are practically 2nd class citizens as far as press coverage in their own city. That's BS.
I think buying teams is an insult to the fans and to baseball and that's why I say they are ruining baseball all the time.
There fans bragging about their record, is like somone inherting money and acting like they earned it.

I am from Boston. We have a lot of history with the Yankees. Not many are fond memories like the 2004 ALCS. Most end like the 2003 ALCS or the 1978 playoff with a bang or the 1999 ALCS with a whimper.

The Yankees like the patriots (of new) have the ability to sign free agents not because they have the most money, it is because they Win.
Buying championships is not the way of the yankees, if we compare the number of Red sox players to Yankees players that started with the team they are currently playing for,(retaining home grown talent), you will find twice the number of Yankees compared to Red sox.
