Amen!
The SEC claims that they have such a tough in conference schedule, but do they really? I mean look at it. Auburn lost to USF, and the lost to Mississipi State. But Alabama will find a way to lose for the 6 straight year to Auburn. Georgia was WAY overrated/overranked at the beginning of the season and EVERYONE knew it! And then South Carolina beats them and they jump up in the polls out of nowhere! And the whole Nation saw how overrated/overranked Tennessee was not once, but twice! Arkansas has the best running back in the country and their offense rushes for 500+ yrds, how in the world do you lose a freaking game!! But yes, they found a way. Kentucky, I mean seriously, should they just leave their defense on the sideline, I mean could the invisibles do any worse? And should I even have to mention Ole Miss and Vanderbilt? UF looks good, but who have they played? And will they even play anyone besides LSU, who again doesn't play anyone besides UF, who looks good, but we don't know, why? Because they don't play anyone out of conference so you can compare them to any other team. Again, my theory. The SEC looks so go and are so overrated because they don't play anyone out of conference that has a all male roster, and of course they beat up on the middle school girls. The SEC is full of decent teams, not good, not great, but decent. Each team is capable of beating each other any given Saturday.
The end.
Thank you.

I have a lot of respect for the SEC, but some fallacies are out there:

1. Everyone plays cupcakes - Sorry, not everyone does and those that do don't play all cupcakes, unlike Arkansas, whose non-conference schedule is a joke (Troy, North Texas, Chattanooga, and Florida International). There are only 7 teams (or were only) at the beginning of the season who had never played a I-AA team, and I can guarantee none of them were in the SEC. (USC, UCLA, Michigan State, etc. have never played a I-AA.)

2. The SEC is overrated and the Big Ten is underrated - Sorry, but it's impossible to underrate the Big Ten this year, because it's a bad conference (fifth among the power conferences, if not sixth this year). And the SEC is not overrated - while I disagree with their OOC scheduling, there's no doubt it's the toughest conference in the country.

SEC teams play 48 out-of-conference games, of which only 14 were against other BCS conference schools. Which is better than the Big Ten, which only had 8 of its 44 against other BCS conferences. Both are pitiful. SEC teams go out of their way to schedule Southern Conference and Sun Belt teams who are easy fodder, just as the Big Ten does with the MAC.

All of this stems from the bowl system and needing the 6 wins to get into a bowl, and the BCS system which cares nothing about who you play. A playoff system, if structured right and using similar criterion as the NCAA basketball tournament, would have a huge strength of schedule component. Then you might see teams start to play somebody, because a loss against a good team shouldn't be worse for you than a win over a I-AA team. Until then, be prepared to shell out big bucks to see Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, and Florida International play your team every week (hey, that looks like Penn State's schedule).

Actually there are some teams in the SEC that do have a fairly weak schedule but over 90% of the teams in the top 25 play cupcakes thier first week or so. And thats not just to start the season with an *** wuppin (ask Michigan). A lot of those smaller conferences get as much out of getting beat by a much bigger larger team in revenue and some high visibility for a week or two. And ya never know what may happen. But last year I believe the University of Florida GATORS had one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA and the win over Ohio State was a testiment to their abilities. I can think of many other teams that are far more over rated going into a new season. Michigan, USC, Ohio State (usually).
Personally I feel the biggest travesty in sports is the pre-season rankings for college football. By the way, you think the SEC is overrated? Try looking for some articles about the Gators for the first half of any season.....its dificult even if you are able to weed out everything about Booty and the Trojans!

Hey.....thats a pretty good name for a band aint it....lol

The SEC is competitive every once in a while. The PAC 10 has its moments. The BIG 12 has a good team once in a while. The BIG 10 is ALWAYS Competitive. Florida didn't even belong in the National Championship game last year. Ohio State lost to them because they spent so much time on Michigan and figured that they would have a rematch (since Michigan Deserved it.) They were unprepared to cover the spread offense. But the SEC does play cupcakes. I mean Florida was so impressive with their 52-0 win over the Louisiana Technical School for the Blind (sarcasm I think it was actually East Carolina) at the end of the season.

I disagree... everyone plays cupcake teams. Think about it like this. The SEC plays a lot of out of conference cupcake teams, I'll admit that, but our in conference games are arguably some of the toughest in the nation. Facing a top 25 team every other week, on average, isn't the easiet thing to win out. A lot of other conferences play weak teams in conference, but schedule tougher out of conference games, a lot of times to SEC teams. I agree, SEC teams get hurt playing weak teams out of conference (ex: UF vs. Western Carolina at the end of last season), but when you play such a tough in conference schedule that teams rarely finish undefeated, it really is justified. Teams in the SEC rarely do make it out undefeated because the SEC is so tough. I'm not boasting the SEC... the Big Ten has been historically tough, the PAC-10 is getting tougher... right now, the SEC is a tough conference to get through, and I say that objectively, not as a Florida fan in the SEC.

It seems everyone on TV these days talking about it is saying the SEC is the toughest followed by a close PAC-10 and then it drops off after that. It's tough for other conferences to be in that shadow, but next year, it could be your conferences casting the shadows. It changes every year. Look at Auburn this year. Last year they could have been a national title contender, if they hadn't lost to Florida and LSU. This year, they lost 2 of their first 3 games, and almost their first game too. The power teams change from year to year, jsut as the conferences do, and everyone plays the cupcake teams.

Show me a top-tier team that doesn't play a cupcake team all season and I'll show you a team that won't make it to the national championship. Every team needs off weeks.

Excuse me? You evidently don't know too much about college football. And by the way, everyone plays "cupcakes" at the beginning of the season. But you put the SEC up against other conferences, and the SEC will win the majority of the time.

The SEC currently has what? 6 teams ranked in the top 25?

Oh, by the way, who was last year's National Champion? Hmmmmmm.

Yes, when you can only claim 5-6 quality out of conference opponents something doesn't add up. There are several great teams in the SEC, but the conference, as a whole, is getting excessive respect.

heismanu- Right, they play cupcakes, unlike the big10 *cough* Appalachia *cough* Iowa (State). The Big10, as of yesterday, have teams ranked 8th, 9th, and 10th... how are they underrated? What does "duck" a good game mean even mean? Answer the question don't use this as a forum to voice how much you love Ohio State (another team with a realllly tough nonconference schedule).

Well we may play cupcakes out of conference but the in-conference games are the most competitive games you will ever see. Other conferences play cupcakes in and out of there conference so check out the other conference schedules there not any tougher than a SEC schedules.

hav a nic day

I agree with SEC as being one of the toughest conference in college football, but man i just don't like their fans, who's brag everyday in this site about how tough of a conference the SEC is. I also have a problem like you, on how these suppose to be, the best conference in America teams plays only Cream Puff cupcake out of conference schedule and they wouldn't schedule a home N home, but only a home schedule for them only, they invite a cupcake team to their home only and beat'em bad. I just don't get how they could say, we have a tough in conference schedule, so we deserved some easy schedule by inviting Cream Puff Cupcake teams to take the beating and then say how a great team we our. Man these idea is full of craps and i think the top SEC team like LSU actually would lose respect of others team because of their bad out of conference schedule.

Yes!!! I believe that the SEC has been the best lately, but c'mon, the SEC is way overated and the Big Ten is way underrated this year. SEC always plays cupcakes. Say what you want about Ohio State going flat in the NC game, but remember, they were the only team in history to play in THREE #1 v #2 games in one year! At least they don't duck a good battle.
