Depend how long and you budget, top sites in LA are Hollywood/ highland area, Santa Monica beach, beverly hill stars houses, Getty center( free), and universal studio and disneyland( in orange county) see some info in www.bayareavisit.com

That will take you longer then a week, to get there. You are better off going by plane. Road trips are torture. Oh boy do I hate them.
