I've read that DNA tests are a revolutionary way in detecting the truth. We have been told that DNA tests have cleared people of crimes who otherwise could very well have been found guilty of them and that they have helped the authorities establish guilt. - We have also heard of stories of sniffer dogs discovering dead bodies in places like New York in the days following Sept 11 for example.
Did you see the interview this morning on Sky News ?
Suddenly in the McCanns case, "DNA proves nothing" (that lawyer's exact words) who also said "... unless the Portuguese Police beat the hell out of Kate WHICH IS THE WAY THEY SEEM TO DO THINGS IN PORTUGAL". (That's a cute little
cheap shot). So the McCanns are NOT to return to Portugal to face anything else anymore. It leaves me thinking that if the McCanns were black all they would have to do would be to look at the interviewing officers "...in a funny way". Did anyone see that interview this morning on Sky News?

It is very easy to try to give credit to ourselves by discrediting others. Portugal is a western country and a fully fledged EU member. To say that Portugal use torture to obtain confessions is laughable. There was years ago a similarly high profile case in Belgium involving British people and Belgium was also accused of similar tactics. The world is watching, "teddy" and we are making fools ourselves, you know?!!

"ShuggieMac"
Do you think that an English Judge would feel he had enough evidence to grant Scotland Yard a further 12 hours under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act of 1984 ? I feel confident you would answer yes. So... What are the McCanns going in England ?!

With thanks and with respect to all who bothered to answer my question, let's all answer the point posed by " archieis42 ". Please go read it !!
If we accept that in some cases we can be lenient and turn away from evidence, whereas in others we chose to be as hard as we can with little or no evidence, then let's all pack our bags and go home.

You gave a great answer. (10 pts nudge nudge).
However, the bottom half of your answer might prove to be wrong. Other newspapers around the world are beginning to side with Portugal. -The French newspaper Le Soire (not sure of the name) is an example.

Once again the fact that the dna was found in the cars wheelwell which is below a carpet in the boot is being ignored on this forum. How would a transfer of dna take place from items carried in the boot obviously on top of the carpet magic itself through the carpet......think about it. You would never lift the boot carpet unless you needed to get the spare wheel or wanted to hide something under the carpet.

I personally think that the portuguese will shove the investigation further towards the british police and eventually the case will be closed, so as not to damage tourism.

I agree with archieis42. British police will now do nothing for a few weeks until the hulaballoo has died down then it will be carpeted with no charges brought. The Portuguese have copped out, The McCanns have too many friends in high places, too much media support and too many expert spin doctors and PR experts for this case to get anywhere near the truth. The only hope of getting justice for Madeleine lies with the British people who have a voice and who must use it even if they feel they are up against a brick wall.

Isnt it amazing how anyone who supports the McCanns and say innocent until proven guilty are so set to go after this cop. My goodness a woman was in jail for 16 years for the murder of her child and it took her that long to say he tortured me? Come on!!!If some cop tortured me I would be going straight to the press immediately. I would not wait 16 years. I would not have wasted that precious time that could have been used to help in the search for her daughter. Murderers will do anything to be set free. I cannot people even buy into this but they are because they want so badly for the McCanns to be innocent which they may be of murdering their child or covering up an accidental death. Its ok for the McCann side to accuse and show hatred but God forbid anyone should shovel it back there way. That man shoud be sued for what he said just as the Portugese press is being sued by the McCanns for what they said.

Hewlett can fairly teach the McScums a lesson or 2 on a thank you to co-perform with police...actual police. looks like the McDefectives have been given kicked into touch via fact the actual police have been allowed to do their interest. The McCanns are a guffawing inventory.

If they have no forensic evidence against the McCanns it would seem most likely that they did not harm their child.

It is unlikely,in a holiday apartment, with basic supplies, the McCanns could have harmed their child, cleared away any DNA, disposed of a body in such a small amount of time, and so well that 4 months on still no idea what happened to the little girl.

I am 100% sure if the Portuguese police could have nailed them they would have done in a heartbeat.

Can't people accept that they could be innocent, I know I do.

I think the QUALITY of the DNA counts.

Finding corpses in the days after 9/11 is relatively easy for Cadavers.

There is no difference in the sign the dog gives for blood or a corpse. The sign is the same.

88% DNA match is inconclusive, however you dress it up.

Think Barry George - Jill Dando. Jumped up DNA and the mans in jail.

No, I didn't see the interview.
But the sniffer dogs didn't discover a dead body.
And also, Maddie McCann was a member of a family. Her DNA must be all over the place. So I imagine it is harder to prove that the DNA evidence is a sign of guilt or involvement in her death. Ther could be a thousand reasons why her dna is in a specific place, and not necessarily because of a crime committed by her parents.

I didn't see it, sorry. Well now that the Mccann's lawyers have discredited DNA, we can all move on.... Oh and that comment to boot, I take them very seriously, I hope the McCann's feel they are getting their moneys worth with that type of maturity representing them. So many people in their life have issues with making intelligent conversation or comments, though I guess birds of a feather flock together.

I always thought that DNA evidence was foolproof. I think this will be a case of none so blind as those who don't want to see. Anyway consider this..... If the child was accidently killed by her parents it has to be a trillion times better than being taken off by a paedophile and subjected to.... well I would rather not contemplate that one.

Even the experts in forensic science admit that it's not 100% sure and that it up to the Portuguese judge to ask Kate to return which currently he has declined to do. I am sure that if he does then they will return to Portugal. I didn't see the interview on Sky but another channel, and its now been well documentated about a number of the Portuguse police involved in this sad case, who have been involved in using torture type methods of interrogation, and have been removed from this case. I not a supporter, just would like a bit of balance here as so many people think they killed their little girl, and still without the evidence to back it up. Innocent until proven guilty.
