it larger for a nice large patio w/ red or brown Belgard pavers or something similar. would it look weird if we kept the concrete slab and added on or do you think we should remove it?

With an appropriate design, you could incorporate the concrete slab & it could be made to look natural, a decorative element of the patio. Further, you could verneer 1-2" flagstone (bluestone, etc.) to enhance the concrete surface. Some of the newer concrete pavers are thinner and made to look like flagstone or slate. These too could be used to veneer the concrete and could be used throughtout your patio to create a more unifom surface. With the quilting (mixing) of different pavers, the possibilities are endless to disguise the concrete pad and not raise the surface level more than 1-2".

actually the concrete slab will be a stable base for anything you want to put on it.
