In an artistic way, I'd put it as a waxy appetizer. If you're thinking in the tense that crayons are actually food, I've been there and done that. The morning after I threw up rainbows.

Well it really depends on the kind.. Red ones are usually an appetizer and Olive ones are really good for the main dish.. also depends on your mood.

Toxic crayons on the floor, Pissing rainbows out the door, Yes my fellow Americans, I am a victom of toxic crayon, you know the led funny color glow in the dark, make your hair and teeth fall out, kind. I would color in the morning, color in the evening, but never, no never go out of the lines.
