I've been guilty of judging books AND people in that way. But, I'm open to changing my opinion. That can be a problem if the person just isn't any good; I keep thinking that, if I give him or her another chance...

I think a lot of people "rush to judgment", but I don't think we can help that because we carry a lot of the proverbial baggage with us. Maybe a new acquaintance reminds you of someone you do or do not like; it can be difficult to get past that prejudice.

With a book, it can be the same way. "I don't read that stuff!" you tell someone. Well, I used to turn up my nose at some romance novels; then, I happened to open one randomly and started reading, discovering that the authoress writes beautifully! She transformed this historical romance into a great reading experience. I try not to judge that way, but it still can happen.

We do it by judging a TV program or an album after just a moment when we might be cheating ourselves out of great experiences.

I think it's human nature to make quick judgments. But, it helps if it's also in your nature to sometimes give that person, book, program, etc., a second look.
