The way I stopped this was simple:Do the things that you fear. At the time it's not easy to do at all...but I have gotten over a lot of things this way....and it makes you feel like you've accomplished something great. There's no easy way to do this but when you think about it,do you want to look back in life and regret it because you could've done so much more if only fear hadn't controlled you? Take it from me.. you don't want that.

Most fears are of unknowns and many are due to dread of failures. If you really wish to tackle it then here is the way.Take paper and a pen/pencil and list serially ,say, six fears, things which you fear and some thing similar. Now ,choose the one which you fear the least and then next to it and thus re categorize them in the increasing order of fear. Choose the one, which you fear the least or lesser and note down what all wrong can go,if you do it.Take preventive or remedial action, make other preparations to minimize the adverse effects. When you feel you have minimized the negative effects (you shall not be able to totally eliminate the negative effects),GO AHEAD AND DO IT.You may get good results or partial results, its not that important,DOING it is.If
you have understood the mechanism by now,you shall be able to take on next item.Be ready to take help from anybody (you can always return the favors later) .Slowly bur surely your self confidence will build up and you shall be as good as anybody if not better. It's a tried, tested and proven technique.all the best.

Some times just talking out your fears with someone can be a big help. If you don't feel comfortable with a close friend try some professional help.
Sometimes we over stress, and can blow thing out of proportion. Taking time to think things out rationally, and with someone else can help out thing into perspective.
Also you can take some proactive approaches to your fears. Participate in activities that build your confidence, such as a physical sport, possibly a martial art.
Practice simple meditation. You should never underestimate the power of a deep breath.

White, this is a challenge I had to learn to deal with in my life. It was so crippling I was terrified to leave my apartment, even to shop for groceries, or walk the 6 houses to my mom's house.
I dealt with it partially by realizing I had to eat and only I could go get my food. I made lists for the grocery store so I could get out of there as soon as possible. I talked to myself (silently) to tell me there was nothing to fear there. I had to find a way to talk myself into doing all the things I had to do, and I wasn't successful at first.
To this day, I will stay home as long as possible, and must occasionally find the good reasons to go out. But it's no longer the chore it used to be. Often I go without thinking about it. I really did just put one foot in front of the other.
It started in 1969.

different fears have to be approached differently. i think having a good friend makes a big difference. you can talk to them and hope they support you in doing what you want to do -- even if you might be afraid of it at first.
a friend of mine and i talk about our parents who watch too much tv -- if you watch tv its easy to think there are terrorists out there somewhere trying to blow up the mall when you go shopping for new shoes -- guess what? they are on the other side of the world and have no way to get here -- or they would be here already. the most amazing thing to me is people are out buying shoes while bombs are going off 100 ft away from them. thats some serious fear control.
one of my problems is i read too much online -- at one time i had convinced myself i could never get another job because of all the writing about how hard it is to get a job if you haven't worked in a while, and how hard it is to get a job if you have bad credit, and how hard it is to get a job if your resume isn't exactly right. i was scared to find a job -- and then i found out everyone writing internet articles is really stupid -- its easy finding a job -- just every job isnt right for you -- and you don't want to work for people uptight about everything stupid like if you missed a comma on your resume anyway.
something really stupid in our culture is scared of change. we like to lock ourselves in. usually personal change is encouraged with positive reinforcement though. also learning the what you can and can't control helps too -- you can't control the crappy new supervisor you got to replace the one you had -- but you can go out and find another job.

Learn to be confident with who you are. Do not let anxiety or low self esteem keep you away from doing what you know is right. A lot of times, we are too insecure about ourselves....you must respect yourself enough to realize that what you feel is right is good enough to do. Seek positive people to be around, stay away from negitivity and try and block out thought from your mind that weigh you down emotionally. You have to start somewhere, so just take it day by day. Good Luck!

Face it and realize that it is only your mind that makes you fear it, once you have stood face to face with your fear and made your mid stand back while you dealt with it, then you will no longer feel controled by that fear.

Don't give yourself time to think, and go do something you absolutely fear. Keep in mind that it isn't the end of the world, and you'll come out a better person.
