I am currently running a dehumidifer but I heard of "damp rid" and was wondering if anyone had any postive or negative experience with it.

Thanks.

ya it works some what, but kitty litter works better, any clay base material will absorb moisture, and it s cheeper.

We used Damp Rid or some brand that is similar. It comes in a package that you open and leave sitting in the damp area. It absorbs moisture from the air into the product/container, then you throw it away and start over. If you are currently using a dehumidifier you will probably not be satisfied with small scale solutions like Damp Rid. The cost of the disposable product will add up very fast, and will far exceed the cost of electricity to poser the dehumidifier. The small containers are also limited in their capacity and have to be changed more frequently than the advertising indicates (depends on the humidity level in your area). If you are getting tired od dumping the accumulated water in the dehumidifier, consider how many contains would be needed if those were damp rid type products. You can have the dehumidifier installed to a plumbing line and it will empty itself.

There are many old fashioned ways to rid moisture out of basements. My grandfather took a burlap bag of rock salt and tied it to a rafter on the ceiling, he had a pail under it and the moisture would collect and drip into the pail, it worked real well.

Your dehumidifier well eventually catch up and start working on a even steady rate of shutting off and on, then you can adjust it. I have. Keep it going this way, be patient.
