Minimum wage is different in all states. I know in Utah minimum wage is $5.20 an hour regular pay. If you are a server they can pay as little as $2.25 an hour knowing that you will get tips.
So depending on where you live, and the cost of living minimum wage ranges. Typically a person can not survive on a minimum wage job alone. Other substances are needed to survive.

The minimum wage suks. But you are right companies will of course adjust prices to reflect the increase. Sadly a lot of companies will adjust the prices even though the increase will probably not effect them. Hardly anyone makes minimum. it is a long overdue increase as the wage has not kept up for close to ten years with the cost of living. If the fat cats that run the companies would take a slight reduction in pay then maybe it would balance out a little. People that make a couple hundred thousand a year have a lot of nerve to cry when they give employees a .20 cent an hour raise while they give themselves a 50-80,000. dollar bonus. It is great that you have made it but stop and think about the greed you have. Give the worker a little more and maybe they can spend a little more to buy your product.

Forcing the minimum wage up is counter balanced by paying higher prices at the cash register.

Next time minimum wage is increased, so will the prices a business charges for its good and services, because that business needs more money to pay for the higher wages.

A simple equation: Wage Hikes = Inflation and higher prices.
At the end of the day you make more, but you pay more, so the net affect is 0.

I'd like to see minimum wage abolished, but welfare benefits treated as taxable regular income.

I.e. right now, there's a big drop off between people who receive government assistance, and those who work. There's no point to moving off government assistance unless you are making a reasonable amount of money. Governments like to try to legislate that number up, but it has the simultaneous effect of wiping some jobs out.

If someone can collect 500 from the month from the government, or work 20 hours a week for 3 bucks an hour, and keep 200 of that incremental 240 (so receive 460 + 240), everyone benefits - they are up 200 a month, the government is up 40 a month, and an employer has a worker they can afford.

There's something very odd about a worker and an employer agreeing to a salary, and the government saying 'that's illegal'. Why is paying someone 5 bucks/hour illegal, but saying 'i can't hire you' is fine?

If minimum wage goes up, so does the cost of living, over time there is really no difference. And no, not all 50 states have the same minimum wage.

No. If we had no minimum wage people would actually make more money because of increased competition between employers for workers!

no it shouldn't be raised because it will ultimately take away jobs, keep people on welfare, and encourage high-school students to drop out. A research showed that mothers on welfare in states that raised their minimum wage remained on welfare 44% longer than those in states where it was not raised.
a reason for this is because a higher minimum wage is an incentive for people to enter the labor market who would usually not apply if not for higher level.

It just was from 5.15 to 7.25 I think that would be asking a bit much to continue pushing it up.

It should be raised. After all, this is in a country where the top CEOs are receiving record pay and bonuses while there are millions of families who are barely surviving.

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I understand why people would like an increase in pay, but then we (myself included in the minimum wage group) end up paying the same thing because suppliers will sell products at higher costs!!! Plus, then I get fired because my boss doesn't want to spend that much on employees.
