We can't do away with our most valuable export industry as we now ride on the back of a mineral exports boom, as opposed to the former wheat and wool days ! However I can't stand the thought of mining old growth rainforest in Tasmanias wilderness etc... Atleast from what I see no real ecological harm can come to a desert waste land anyway ! So who will ensure growth and prosperity AND preserve sensitive old growth forest areas in Australia ?

A really good question. I also support the preservation of the Tasmanian forests and protecting national parks, endangered species etc. However, I also live in a part of Queensland experiencing a mining boom. If mining was stopped, the entire town (and most towns near here) would become ghost towns. The resources, money and people coming here have boosted not only the mines but also the schools, the hospital, houses etc.

I will be voting labor for where I live, they have promised to support the mining boom but have also made other promises about the environment and climate change.

In the USA you sure don't want to depend on voting for Hillary Clinton, and no one else on either side has really spoken to this in their ventures on preservation. I would go for a new face that is willing to deal with fresh issues and has an open ear. There is only one right now, and that's Obama on this side of the planet.

America used to be a forward thinking country. Our industry was always cutting edge. Now, the republicans want to turn out industry into 19th century mining, when it can be 21st century wind, solar and who knows what else, because we can sick our inventors on the problem!

Well I wouldn't be relying on the Minister of Environment to preserve it the only thing he is interested in preserving is his job.
