ok... i know this sounds funny/stupid.... not to mention crazey..
but, i have a dodge truck and today it would change (transmission) out of 1st gear until i put gas in it, yes i said gas. the gas was really low as on the red line low. this was NOT the 1st time it has done this. this has happened 2-3 other times when the gas has gotten really low. fliud checked out fine and i switched it off (b4 adding gas) and switched it back on, and it still wouldn't shift. all other times it shifts fine, only when the gas is that low is when i have probs with it shifting. after adding the gas, i was on my merry lil way without any probs. my brother was with me when this happened and when i told him after i put gas in it, it will probley be fine, he thought i was crazy. after adding gas, he saw for himself and didn't know what 2 say... my van wouldn't shift once due to a fuse being out, but never from low gas.
i PROMISE this happened, no joke...
have you heard of this b4 or know anything about it?

The only thing that I can think of is that when your tank is empty the shift in the position of the body is either causing an electrical chafing that does not manifest itself when the tank is full (added weight). I was thinking that maybe the fluid was low and was not being drawn up into the filter because of the shift in body weight and hence fluid position, but you checked the fluid. Mechanical linkage-if equipped- may be another issue to investigate.

Dodge has some pretty odd-ball logic gates sometimes, I don't doubt that they have something in the ROM that would do this. Kind of smart I supose, if you are stuck in first gear, thats a pretty noticeable way to say that you should hit the gas station.
