I think it's subjective and all--but my analysis says they're not ugly on average, and maybe a little on the plus side overall.
Simone de Beauvoir--sort of plain buy pretty in a European intellectual way

Erica Jong: Hot in my opinion

Camile Paglia: Pretty in a confident intellectual kind of way:

Naomi Wolf: Hot in my book. That's ironic considering she wrote about the beauty myth and all.

Andrea Dworkin: I admit I can't stand her ideas, and she's not pleasant to look at...

Carol Gilligan: Looks good for her age.

Betty Friedan: Not my style, but I wouldn't call her ugly

Wow, Ness. See I touched a sore spot. Mostly I'm pointing out that the guy Happy Snappy who always posts here is wrong when he says feminists become feminists because they are ugly.

But, I also think that it's just part of nature that people are going to look at how other people look.
Do you think women NEVER judge men on how they look? Come now--let's try to have an honest discussion. This is anonymous after all.

Stale White Male--
You have an unrealistic expectation of how women look. You're judging on Hollywood standards instead of thinking about people you might meet, say at the mall or local library.

Hey, Lioness. Agree with the Jane Fonda--didn't mean this as a comprehensive list, just sort of "Hey, what are some feminists that I'm at least sort of familiar with, and what do they look like?"
These were the names that came to mind.

How could I have left out Gloria Steinem? She was very sexy in that late 60's early 70's politically conscious hippie intellectual wave.

This is an observation made to test the validity of another's statement. While you not only disproved the statement (which, I must say, was made in ignorance), you did so while being honest with your opinions, without making fun of anyone OR their opinions, and all the while maintained that it's all subjective.
I'm not a feminist. I'm not an ugly nor an attractive woman. I'm just me. What people need to realize is that the other person, who stated that "ugly" women are more likely to be feminists, (therein insinuating that it is the less physically attractive (to whom?) women that are jealous/angry/misplaced enough to cause a ruckus), was proved to be wrong in his train of thought.
Thanks for an interesting perspective that was executed respectfully.

I don't like feminists but I don't dislike them either so I think my opinion is objective.
Simone de Beauvoir look like a thin man.
Erica Jong is a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Camille Paglia is handsome but have that difficult look that I don't like.
Naomi Wolf is an 8, I would go out with her.
Andrea Dworkin is ugly.
Carol Gilligan is old with wrinkles and bags under her eyes but there is some sexy in her, I like her smile.
Betty Friedan is a 5.

You make a very good point, Steven! And as Lioness pointed out, Jane Fonda is a major hottie. I would add that Gloria Steinem is also very pretty.
True story: A friend of mine who’s a reporter was interviewing Gloria Steinem when she was in town. While interviewing her, he’s looking in her eyes, and started thinking about how hot she was, and had to do everything he could to repress a *****. One of the greatest feminists of the 20th century, and all he could think about was what she’d be like in bed.

I think Slappy just tries to feed into the stereotype that feminists must be unable to get male attention and so they turn against them. This has never been true with the girls I know that identify with being feminists. For the most part they look like most other girls some are considered good looking while others are average. I agree with you that the standards for judgin beauty are pretty skewed anyway.

Simone de Beauvoir is almost as good-looking as Wallis Simpson.
Erica Jong is definitely hot!
Camile Paglia does have that sexual intellectual look.
Naomi Wolf does have that sweet innocent look.
Andrea Dworkin just looks like a bag lady.
Carol Gilligan is definitely very pretty.
Betty Friedan was plain looking, even at 40.

Thank you for a cool outlook and placing more humanity on feminists. I haven't checked the views of these women, but most of them look like they wouldn't have to remain single if they didn't want to, especially Naomi Wolf, yummers.

Ness B. Stop ranting and be educated in a evolutionary fashion. Women's looks will always be important to men as long as we are human. Get off that relativistic, post-modern, social constructionist incoherence and take a science class, or two. Preferable in evolutionary biology.
