it depends on what the idle (i think that's what it's called) is set at...some cars have it set at higher, which means if you let it go without brake or gas, it goes at a default speed.....that's the idle...so if your idle is low, it'll happen on hills

It is a matter of opposing forces. The force of gravity plus the weight of the car generates a force to move the car backwards.

The clutchs in the auto transmission are exerting forces to move the car forward.

The greater force will win out.

It is all normal, so don't worry about it. They all do that.

easy, the clutch in an automatic is fluid and if the hill is steeper than the motion of the fluid to move it forward(idle speed) weight of the car is fighting the flow.

It only happens on steep hills. It's normal as long as it goes when you step on the gas.
