Flowers, definitely. If it's a rose, make it yellow for friendship. Otherwise, and to be preferred, make it a really big and showy flower like they grow in Costa Rica ... the ones with a 5 or 6 inch flower. Only one though. A bouquet is over the top for a first date. No candy ... at least until you have gauged the other person's tastes. I mean, they might REALLY love candy corn and not chocolate. Not that any self-respecting woman would pick candy corn over chocolate .

Both are a little over the top for a first date. Try a single flower like a pink rose, or a small grouping of wild flowers. Save the chocolates and the big bouquets for a later date.

Flowers definently, but get a small bouquet, and NO roses on the first date. Candy is usually for Valentine's Day.

Most women would still prefer a bouquet of flowers because its more romantic. We love the smell of fresh flowers and this thoughtful gesture is a big plus factor on a date. You are able to project an image of being a romantic, sweet and thoughtful person.

P.S. Some women are health and weight conscious and would not touch a box of candy - afraid it would ruin their diet.

Flowers. It's possible the person could be diabetic and the candy would be bad. All women love flowers. Not roses, though. Too much for a first date.

Candy is only for Valentine's Day. Stick with flowers, but not roses on a first date.
