okay so my son is 4 1/2 months old and has been eating 8 oz each feeding 4 times a day, so a total of 32 oz a day. ive read somewhere that that is the maximum amount they're allowed to have each day. i wasnt planning on not giving him cereal or baby food until 6 months because that was what the pediatrician recommended. what do i do however, if he starts wanting more? usually every month or so he'll increase each feeding by another ounce. its been almost a month since he's been on this feeding schedule. any ideas on what im supposed to do? i dont want to go against his pediatricians advice....

My son was also a big eater. Around that same age, there were days when he was drinking 40+ ounces of formula. Do not start cereal without the doctor saying its okay. If you think your baby is hungry, feed him. Mothers know best. If you have a feeling that something else may be wrong (like he is wanted more formula for comfort) go have him checked out. My son had acid reflux, so he ate alot just to comfort himself. Its nothing serious. If you are very worried, try giving him a little water from time to time, it won't hurt him. Just so you know, I started feeding my son infant cereal in his bottle at 2 months of age due to the acid reflux and he has had no adverse reactions/problems from that. He is over a year and is fine. He is just an eater :)

My son is 2 months old and eats more than 32 oz a day and my pediatrician said that it was okay because he is really big for his age. But I would start giving your son rice cereal in the morning and then again before he goes to bed. My pediatrician said that I could give him cereal at 4 months, so I would discuss your concerns with your doctor to see if you could start him on rice cereal.

he is 4 1/2 months so he is aloud to have some baby cereal now. the recommended age is between 4-6 months of age. normally breast feed babies are recommended to have cereal at 6 months while bottle feed can eat thin cereal between 4 and 6 months. so if you are bottle feeding and he will take some cereal from a spoon then give him a little (1-2 table spoons in total to start)in the morning and a little at night.

someone above me said to give them sugar and apple sauce!! DON'T DO THAT, a baby at this age dose not need sugar or apple sauce.

He's a good eater, and he needs more than formula. Start off with a couple of tablespoons of rice cereal, a sprinkle of sugar or a tablespoon of applesauce, and enough formula to make it not too sloppy, but not too thick.

Rice cereal is easily digested, but constipating, so add something like sugar or karo syrup or apple sauce or apple juice to take care of that before it happens.

You have fun, sweetie! Babies that age are so cute! And they stay in one place!! :)

Not an expert, but mine lived through my mothering--they are 17 and 21. I'm going gray-haired over the 17 yo.

maybe tell your pediatrician how much ounces your baby eats during the day and see if he/she can recommend something.
