The British took over Canada and the part of America between the Appalachian mountains and the east bank of the Mississippi river. Those are the key points in the western hemisphere. But this was part of the Seven Years War in Europe. There were additional British gains at the expense of the French - Minorca in the Mediterranean and a greater hand in India which the British subsequently exploited.

as above, plus it removed the threat of the French and Indians to the American colonists; gave them a sense of their military worth and the beginnings of the thought, hey, we don't need the Brits anymore.
You can argue that the American Revolution started when Montcalm surrendered Canada to the dying Wolfe....
