...or some irrefutable biological tag for it, and can identify it with 100% accuracy in any 1st term fetus with a simple chemical or blood test. How do you think this discovery would impact the abortion issue in this country? How do you think those driven by strong religious convictions would react?

Well if ever a gene was found I think that abortion would most likely raise because parents want to avoid any chance that their child could face emotional or physical abuse.

I think if you look at the past and the way religion had many influences on how people were treated you will see how this gene and abortion would affect the religious people out there. Nazi Germany, Slavery, Salem Witch Trials, etc. were all based around "religious viewpoints".

The religious would probably say that by killing off these people they are preventing disease and destruction.

Of course I think doctors would be more apt to keep the gene a secret until they can find a "cure" to fix the gene so they can raise outrageous prices on medication and make everyone go bankrupt trying to "cure" their child.

From a moral point of view, all kinds of BAD things could happen. Everyone would have "perfect" children. Have you ever noticed how there are much fewer down syndrome people now-a-days? There's a reason - it can be tested for now during pregnancy.

Personal opinion: I wish this technology had existed when I was a fetus. Given the choice, I think I'd rather have been aborted.

BUT, if a gay gene were found, at least people would be forced to accept that homosexuality is indeed biological, and not chosen.

Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out if you are asking if someone was to figure out they were pregnant with a gay child would they have an abortion cause of religious beliefs, but would they not cause of religious beliefs????.... Okay, I believe if doctors were able to prove people were borne gay *Which They Are and I Wish People Would Realize This* that would make really religious people that think homosexuality was a sin stop thinking that, and come to terms and accept it..... *What is sad though is everyone knows people are borne gay and nearly all doctors say this, which is proof enough I believe*. Now about the abortion part, I'm sorry I can't answer that Because I don't believe a man should ever reserve the right to tell and/or suggest to a woman what to do with her body............. But I will say this, if your 11 year old got raped and got pregnant and the doctor said she had a 50/50 chance of living if she was to go through with the pregnancy, and it was best for her to have abortion, I think we all know what we would probably end up doing.....

nicely that is ridiculous. What if a strait couple had a gay newborn whith this hypothetical gay gene. the female may well be compelled to have the infant aborted considering that is SCIENTIFICALLY shown that strait couples can improve gay infants. Say this couple has been attempting so complicated to have slightly one and whilst the female finally gets pregnant, she is compelled to kill her destiny newborn, and her hopes and desires. Say a gay couple adopts a strait newborn. the newborn does no longer turn gay if it grow to be genetic(which that is not any longer) and that is not any longer a call besides. The strait newborn meets up with a strait newborn from the different intercourse. they have slightly one. That infant is you. Now you're threatening the existence of destiny promptly infants, probably like your self. That gay couple might have not been alive to undertake that infant and then that infant does no longer advance up and have you ever, having no longer met your different parent. besides, why is everyone so fricken disillusioned approximately different peoples lives. All we do is walk previous you interior the line. you have no reason or perfect to take over our lives. that is like getting mad at a ginger for crimson hair. An Affrican-american for their son colour. so which you suck. bypass away us be, and difficulty approximately your self.

Wow. What a question. Would the religious right choose the sin of abortion or the scurge of homosexuality as "God's will"?

First, let me say, you got a star for this one.

I'm gonna guess they'll divide into two groups and form their own religions. One will be The First Church of Jesus Loved the Little Children and the other will be God's Will Family Cathedral.

If that happens, sadly, many more babies would be slaughtered for no good reason. I doubt the religious would change their view on either abortion, or the gays..Most of them would probably say "It is just a trial they must bear, and they will get blessed for bearing it without giving into the temptation of being gay"...That sounds like something a religious person would say, to me, anyway..They would still hate abortion.

I think more ignorant people would abort their perceived gay fetuses. You can see this already happening with increased numbers of people aborting fetuses perceived as diseased when amniocentesis tests come back as positive for sex chromosome things like Turner syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome. Some of those people assume that children born with either turner syndrome or klinefelter are more apt to be gay or have some sort of irregular gender expression and just abort them...

In terms of how it would impact deeply and conservatively religious people, I think it would vary. I think it would be sociologically fascinating though.

Even with irrefutable proof were found I think a lot of people still wouldn't believe it and would persist in trying to "cure" them in camps and the like.

first of all, I dont think that is going to happen. There is not just going to be some "gay gene" found. It's far too complex.

Second, I could care less. I'm gay and that ain't gonna change no matter what they think they discover.

I would be horrified if that is the reason why the religious would finally support abortion! That's just wrong! (and I don't believe that it is an actual gene..but okay).
