That description might be a little harsh. Part of the reason for the dislike of Clinton and Giuliani's character despite their high rankings in the polls is because American's have known them longer. We know the bad along with the good on those two.
Another reason is that people don't like the truth nearly as much we'd like to think we do. People that stick to their values and principles on everything are usually seen as eccentrics. Why? Because, sometimes you're going to believe something that's different than what the majority believes.
To be on top of the campaign polls, you generally need to read the electorate well and tailor your positions to their concerns.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. While it might make the candidates "fake", it also makes them more democratic. Their policies more closely reflect the wishes of the people than the candidate's own idiosyncratic values.

Primaries are about 'red meat' issues and candidates. Usually the primary voters are those furthest away from the party center.
This is why the Democratic nominee has such a hard time winning. After campaigning as a socialist for months it's hard to return to being a moderate.
Meanwhile the Republican has been campaigning as a right wing hard-*** on drugs, terrorists, and illegal aliens. In this day and age you don't have to move far from that position to be in the center.

Why was a B-movie has-been actor elected President in 1980?
Why did Californians vote for a Corporate funded action-movie -star?
Hillary is a smooth talking chamelion that massages her message depending on the crowd in front of her and what the polls and her PR staff tell her. She was for "winning the war in Iraq" as late as last year, and still wants tens of thousands of troops to stay because "we have strategic interests in Iraq;" but she campaigns as though she were an "Anti-War" candidate. It shows it's always what you say, not what you do.
Is it really a coincidence that she is the number #1 Democrat in recieving money from Medical Insurance and Pharmacuetical Lobbyists and she is now calling for all Americans to have Insurance?

Giuliani is more phony than Clinton, and any other candidate - Democratic or Republican.
He's made millions off 9/11 by speaking about the incident and other "ventures." I have absolute faith that as President, this man will be wide open to bribes. The self-made "hero" who spent 26 hours at Ground Zero and made millions is a phony if I ever saw one.

america (the government and the system) is not the world's greatest country, power, leader anymore. that legacy has long passed. spreading democracy and freedom is now just a myth told as bedside stories or around campfires.

Chi Guy, I suggest you watch the South Park episode where PETA forces the town of South Park to vote for a new mascot to replace their old "South Park Cows" mascot. It'll explain the whole thing better than any of us can.

Because they tell Americans what they want to hear.
Many Democrats talk out of both sides of their mouths. They say one thing to one group of people and they say something different to another group.
