That quote is really famous, because it pretty much describes almost every aspect of life. It also sums up how the world goes 'round and why things are really unfair. "Nothing in this world is free", because you gain everything at the cost of something else and vice versa. Because of that, nothing around you lasts for long. It basically expresses the impermanence or brevity of life.

Just think of a time when you personally had to sacrifice, give up something, or when something was taken away from you. Another good example of interpreting this quote is to apply it to the death of a loved one. For example, when you move away, you lose touch with old friends. You gain new ones, eventually, but that would never have happened if you never moved in the first place. However, oddly enough it all works out and keeps things balanced.

Sorry, if this all sounds confusing. I hope it helped.

Nothing in this world is free -- think about it. Everything comes with a price. Buy now, pay later. Get two for the price of one, but they don't tell you that they've doubled the price on the one, so you're actually paying for both.

You know your own life's experiences better than anyone on here. Surely there must be something that you've done on easy street, and had to pay up afterwards. Say for example, that you've gotten away with something, but eventually it comes back to haunt you. Or you've cheated on a test and gotten a good grade, and then the next month you miss the same questions that were correct the first time because this time you weren't able to cheat. In other words, mention some things that you thought you got away with (free) and how you had to pay the consequences later. We've all had those experiences. So put on your thinking cap, my dear, and see what you can come up with. You'll be surprised. Good luck!

Have you ever wanted to do something, and had a consequence for it? Say you went to the mall without asking your parents or broke curfew then got grounded or had a privelege taken away... you paid a "price" for breaking a rule so it wasn't necessarily "free", right? Maybe not the best example, but think along those lines.

Karma is a B...h. If you do something good, good will be returned. Do something bad and something bad will be returned. Think of the Ying Yang. There is dark and light, good and evil to everything.
